White House Has A Big Problem, According To The Obamas [Video]

It may be the most famous address in the United States, but that does not guarantee a solid wi-fi connection for its residents.

During a pre-Super Bowl interview with CBS News anchor and Oprah Magazine Managing Editor Gayle King, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama confirmed that connecting to the internet in the White House is an issue, according to CNN.

“Obama said that he hopes to have the whole ‘tech thing’ figured out, adding that there’s a lot of Wi-Fi dead spots in the White House.

“The first lady agreed it’s a subject of contention in the house saying, ‘The girls are just irritated by it,’ referring to the Obama’s daughters Sasha and Malia.”

Mashable notes that King had asked about the simpler pleasures of living in the White House, asking how the water pressure was and whether there were any other issues.

In response to King’s question about life in the White House, that was when the president said he hoped to get the situation figured out by the end of his second term.

“You know that whole tech thing, we’ve been trying to get that straight for the next group of folks,” Obama said. “This is an old building so there’s a lot of dead spots where the WiFi doesn’t work…no, actually it’s an issue.”

The pre-Super Bowl interview of the president has become a tradition for the network hosting the world’s most-watched sporting event. Sometimes the interviews get contentious, such as the times Fox has hosted the Super Bowl, meaning Bill O’Reilly was conducting the pre-game interview. But this year’s event was a considerably lighter affair, with King taking a different tact for CBS News.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that the Obama’s plan to host a small gathering in the White House residence, with friends and family coming to the executive mansion to enjoy the game between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos.

“We have the serious watchers, that’s the Treaty Room,” the First Lady noted, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “If you are in that room then you are watching the game. Then there is the outside room where the kids are fooling around by the food. Then there’s what I call the ‘champagne room.’ That’s where my mother sits, where you don’t know what’s going on but you are close to the champagne.”

THR did point out that this would be Obama’s last Super Bowl interview as president and noted the items the president and first lady were most looking forward to after leaving office.

“[Both] POTUS and FLOTUS told King they will be most looking forward to simply relaxing and performing normal tasks without being watched under the public eye.

“Michelle said that Barack will want to take a walk by himself outside while the president said Michelle is ‘going to want to travel and roam around the world in ways that we can’t do when traveling in official capacities.'”

The interview with the President and Mrs. Obama comes prior to what could also be Peyton Manning’s last Super Bowl, with the Denver Broncos quarterback having faced a number of health issues in the last several years, resulting in his leaving the Indianapolis Colts before landing at Denver. But this year, Manning missed a number of games due to injuries and health issues.

While it is too early in the game (this is being written at 8:24 p.m. EST) to know whether it will impact his performance, it has been noted in sports circles, with SEC Country doing an entire article on whether this would be his last time out.

“Manning didn’t confirm that Sunday’s game would be his last, but his demeanor seemed to indicate as much,” SEC Country noted of the former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback. “Manning is completing his 18th NFL season and his fourth for the Broncos.”
