Steven Tyler Leaving American Idol, Compares Show to ‘Deranged Bunny Killer’

Steven Tyler will not be returning to American Idol season 12 after only two seasons as a judge on the uber-popular Fox TV show. In ending his short-lived and unsuccessful run Tyler compared the show to a deranged bunny killer.

In a statement released by the Aerosmith singer Tyler said of his run on TV’s number one rated show:

“After some long … hard … thoughts … I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit.”

The reference comes from the movie Fatal Attraction in which an obsessed woman killers the rabbit of her lover’s daughter and then boils it.

Tyler also announced that Aerosmith will get back to the music:

“I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass – the ultimate in auditory takeover.”

So what’s next for Tyler and Aerosmith:

“On Nov. 6, we are unleashing our new album, Music from Another Dimension on the Earth, Moon, Mars, and way beyond the stars. IDOL was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it … Now it’s time to bring Rock Back. ERMAHGERD.”

While the decision from Steven Tyler’s point of view appears to be all his own rumors have been circulating for weeks in which Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler would be replaced, perhaps by Demi Lovato and Britney Spears. There has even been talk that long-time judge Randy Jackson could be shown the door.

After Steven Tyler’s statement show creator and executive producer Simon Fuller wrote:

“I completely understand his desire to get back to his life as the singer in America’s greatest-ever rock band. AMERICAN IDOL will miss him!”

Given the shows slipping ratings under the Lopez-Tyler years I don’t think he will actually be all that missed by Fuller and his production staff.
