‘Fresh Prince’s’ Janet Hubert Blasts Stacey Dash, Calls Her ‘A Media Ho’ After Oppressive Racial Comments

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’s Janet Hubert, or as many know her as “Aunt Viv,” has grabbed a few headlines in the past few weeks. First, she slammed former colleague Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith for taking a stand against the Academy Awards.

Now, Janet Hubert has aired her issue with Fox correspondent Stacey Dash. Over the years Dash has aired her frustrations that don’t always feel progressive to the African American community, or women in general. For instance, Dash claims that the gender pay gap is nonsense and made up. Dash also sparked fury all over when she made comments about the Academy Awards, recently.

In an interview, Dash said that her fellow African Americans need to pick if they want to segregate themselves or if they wanted to be included. “Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don’t want segregation, we need to get rid of channels like BET.”

Of Stacey Dash’s comments, Hubert told HuffPost Live, “Somebody needs to slap the little bit of black she got on her off of her, okay? Because girlfriend has worked on BET more than most actresses have. I think she’s just saying this kind of bull because she wants sensationalism.”

She continued to take down Dash for her comments, “She’s working for Fox, and she needs a job, and she’s making a check, and she’s bringing controversy to herself. Stacey is a bit of a media ho.”

Janet Hubert went on to say that she has no sympathy for Stacey Dash because she “puts the struggle way back, way back. It’s just rude and wrong.” She then went on to explain that if African Americans no longer had BET, some performances wouldn’t be celebrated. Of her comments about getting rid of Black History Month, Hubert calls them “stupid.” Her last comment in regard to Stacey Dash is what sparked a huge Twitter explosion: “Stacey, just dash away, honey.”

Janet Hubert isn’t the only prominent person in entertainment to give her opinion on Stacey Dash’s comments. Actress Gabrielle Union hilariously pretended like she didn’t know who Dash was, while at the Sundance premiere of The Birth of a Nation. Her comments went on to start a hashtag #WhosStaceyDash, which immediately trended on Twitter.

When asked about the Clueless actress’ comments, Union said, “Who is Stacey Dash? The more that we focus on inclusion and a true representation of this country, I think that crazy lady will have less to say.”

After backlash, Stacey Dash says that she wants an apology from people who are trashing her due to her comments on race. She brings up actor Morgan Freeman as an example of someone who has spoken his mind with an unpopular opinion, and wasn’t raked over the coals for it.

“It’s time we decide as a society whether we want to care about race or not. Like Morgan Freeman says, there is no White History Month and there should be no Black History Month. Black history IS American history.… You want racial healing and reconciliation? You want true equality? Listen to Morgan Freeman – Stop. Talking. About. Race.”
