Ken Kratz Proves Once Again Why He’s The Real Villain On ‘Making A Murderer’

Ken Kratz, former prosecutor of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, and antagonist in the Steven Avery case, is officially in the running for the most unprofessional attorney of the year.

Making a Murderer is the Netflix docu-series that follows the trial and subsequent conviction of Steven Avery in the Teresa Halbach murder. Regardless of whether or not Making a Murderer fans believe Steven Avery is guilty or innocent, viewers are pretty unanimous in their hatred of Ken Kratz.

Most recently, the internet was abuzz with news of a letter Kratz sent to Avery in prison, encouraging him to confess, so Kratz could turn it into a book deal. According to SheKnows, the letter was recently leaked by Avery’s new defense attorney, Kathleen Zellner.

The unprofessional and inappropriate letter from Ken Kratz to Steven Avery started out like this.

“I apologize for misunderstanding your letters from a couple years ago, as I thought you were interested in being honest about what happened and finally telling the whole truth to someone,” Kratz wrote.

“Since I’m the person who probably knows more about your case than anyone else, I hoped that you would choose me to tell your story to. Unfortunately, you only want to continue your nonsense about being set up. That’s too bad, because you had ONE opportunity to finally tell all the details, but now that will never happen.”

Kratz continued with more condescension, “By the way, the difference between you and famous convicted murderers from the past is they told their whole truthful story to someone, who then wrote a book about what actually happened and got people to understand both sides. I was willing to do that for you… but if you are going to continue to lie about what happened between you and Ms. Halbach, I am not interested.”

The letter is dated September 6, 2015 and it’s clear that Kratz was only hoping to cash in on the Steven Avery case. But this isn’t the first time the former prosecutor has come under fire for being a shady character.

According to the Huffington Post, in November, 2012, The Office of Lawyer Regulation filed an ethics violation against Ken Kratz for supposedly soliciting a domestic abuse victim through a series of sleazy and sexual text messages. He plead no contest to the charges. Although more women eventually came forward with allegations, the Justice Department did not find him guilty of additional criminal acts.

When news of Kratz’s letter to Avery broke, Making a Murderer viewers took to Twitter with their outrage. Zellner, Avery’s attorney, even posted a tweet about the letter herself.

Although the public may remain divided over Steven Avery’s guilt or innocence in Teresa Halbach’s murder for a while to come, it’s safe to say everyone has already made up their mind about Kratz being a slimeball.
