Robert Lavoy Finicum: Oregon Militia Conspiracy Theories Say Ammon Bundy’s Activist Slain By FBI Had Hands Up [Video]

Robert “Lavoy” Finicum is the name of the Oregon militia activist slain by the FBI when the federal government had Ammon Bundy arrested. Some witnesses claim Finicum was murdered since he allegedly was unarmed and had his hands up at the time of the Oregon standoff shooting. Based upon these accounts, some conspiracy theories suggest the fatal confrontation was orchestrated by government forces.

Late Tuesday evening, the Oregon militia members were stopped by FBI and Oregon police at a checkpoint. Details about the resulting shootout have been vague, but it is known for certain that two Oregon militia men were shot, including Finicum, and eight others were arrested, including Ammon and Ryan Bundy, Brian “Booda” Cavalier, Shawna Cox, and Ryan Payne.

Finicum was the spokesman for the Citizens for Constitutional Freedom group that was occupying the Malheur Wildlife Center. In the past, he had stated he would rather die than be arrested and spend his life in prison, but Cliven Bundy, the father of Ryan and Ammon Bundy, believe Finicum was murdered in “cold blood.”

Lavoy Finicum’s daughter, Thara Tenney, has stated on Facebook that she also believes her father was murdered by the U.S. government.

“I want the world to know how my father was murdered today. His hands were in the air and he was shot in the face by the American authorities. Ammon Bundy reported there are 6 witnesses to this evil,” she wrote.

As evidence for the Oregon militia’s conspiracies theories, she provided this YouTube video, which claims to provide an eyewitness account by Victoria Sharps, a woman who was asleep in the vehicle when the fatal incident began.

Sharps claims that Finicum put his hands out the window of the vehicle and asked Oregon police to allow the women inside to exit unharmed. In response, it’s alleged the police “shot at him, but they missed him.” The militia members tried to drive away, but they crashed their vehicle shortly later only to be “bombarded with bullets” and tear gas rounds.

“When we crashed and stopped for a second, he got out of the car, he had his hands in the air, he’s like ‘just shoot me then’….and they did, they shot him dead,” said Sharp. “He was just walking, with his hands in the air, I swear to God, and they shot him dead and after he was down on the ground, shot him three more times.”

The Bundy Ranch Facebook page also claimed that the Robert Lavoy Finicum shooting was in “cold blood.”

“Levoy Finicum was Shot and murdered in Cold blood today in Burns Oregon by the FBI and State Law enforcement. He had his hands up and was shot 3 Times. This Man Is one of the best Patriots, Husband, Father, Grandfather, friend and Neighbor, that this world will ever know. Spread this far and wide!”

Pete Santilli also provided live reports via YouTube, but the Bundy Ranch claims Santilli was “arrested to prevent him [from] reporting” what happened. Jason Patrick is reported as saying, “If this government’s ‘peaceful resolution’ means kidnapping and murder, what are we to do?”

Some Republican representatives have also supported this version of events on social media.

Nevada lawmaker Shelly Shelton compared Lavoy Finicum’s death to Jesus and Moses of the Bible.

“For any who feel he was a criminal, like those who felt Moses and Jesus were criminals, I would implore you to investigate the peaceful work that Lavoy did in his life from the Bundy Ranch where thousands protested without a shot fired, to today in Oregon, where the shots fired came from the government at an unarmed Lavoy Finicum,” she wrote on Facebook.

But not all of the eyewitness accounts agree with the idea that Finicum was unarmed with his hands up when he was shot and killed. Witness Melvin Lee posted his own video on YouTube where he describes the events as he knows them. His version agrees with Sharps’ account that Finicum’s vehicle crashed, but he also claims Finicum was charging at police when he was shot.

“LaVoy had took off — he ended up hitting a snowbank, I guess, trying to get around the blockade,” said Lee in the YouTube video. “After he hit that snowbank, he came out of that truck and he charged at the law enforcement — as I understand it.”

Mark McConnell, a bodyguard for Ammon Bundy, was also told by Ryan Payne and Shawna Cox that Finicum charged the police. He also specifically denies that Finicum was surrendering to authorities.

“He was not on his knees, none of that. He was none of that nonsense,” McConnell said. “You know, that was a miscommunication on somebody else’s part. But he went after them. He charged them. You know, LaVoy was very passionate about what he was doing up here.”
