Boston Celtics Star Avery Bradley Regrets Signing Contract, Fires Agent

Boston Celtics guard Avery Bradley signed a four-year contract worth $32 million back in 2014, and he’s now regretting it to the point where he has fired Mitchell Butler as his agent, according to NBC Sports.

When the Boston Celtics offered an $8 million annual salary and fully guaranteed the entire $32 million, Avery Bradley was quick to sign on the dotted line, as a player of his caliber used to be paid a bit less than that lucrative deal even though the contract offered no options to terminate early or renegotiate.

What Avery Bradley and a lot of other players failed to foresee was that the NBA would be raising the salary cap by approximately $20 million, thanks in large part to an increase in revenue from broadcasting rights and advertiser fees, which meant that players were going to be paid a lot more than they normally did.

Khris Middleton was able to secure a $70 million contract from the Milwaukee Bucks to become their new starting guard next to Michael Carter-Williams, even though the former Texas A&M Aggies star has never averaged more than 18 points a season in the NBA.

Even though he is a notch below a true NBA franchise player, Gordon Hayward was able to command a $61 million contract from the Utah Jazz, a team that is filled with a handful of good players with some promise but none of whom are legitimate franchise players at the moment.

Tristan Thompson was able to get the Cleveland Cavaliers to finally pony up on an $82 million contract after weeks of threatening to leave via free agency, but he has started only 13 out of the 43 games that he has played despite Timofey Mozgov regressing really badly as the starting center.

While he might never admit to doing such a thing, there’s a very good chance that Avery Bradley keeps up with the stats and contributions of those three NBA players and others who have signed lucrative deals since the salary cap was increased, and it more than likely makes him more upset by the day.

Since his deal with the Boston Celtics is fully guaranteed, there’s really no chance of Avery Bradley being able to change the financial terms of the contract at this point in time, so it’s curious that the 25-year-old guard would fire Mitchell Butler and replace him with Rob Pelinka.

Rob Pelinka represents Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, Orlando Magic forward Channing Frye, Houston Rockets guard James Harden, Golden State Warriors guard Andre Iguodala, and other well-paid NBA stars, so he is more than qualified for the job, but there is nothing he can do about Avery Bradley’s contract at this point in time.

If Avery Bradley really wants to be paid more money, then he can put up even better numbers than the 14.8 points and 2.1 assists per game for the Boston Celtics so that Rob Pelinka can try to negotiate some endorsement deals to supplement the $8 million being made from his NBA contract.

Under the terms of the agreement, Avery Bradley is stuck under contract with the Boston Celtics for another two season after this current one is over, so his unhappiness with the deal is unlikely to go away soon, which might affect the lock down defender and his ability to perform on the basketball court.

When Avery Bradley is free from his current contract with the Boston Celtics and has Rob Pelinka looking for another big contract, then the former Texas Longhorns star might need to do a little more research next time around or sign a shorter contract in case the salary cap goes up against in a couple of years.
