Airline Passengers Given Free Meal Voucher After Emergency Landing, Reason Given For Voucher Was ‘Bomb’

Airline passengers on Scandinavian Airlines Systems were startled when their plane made an emergency landing for an unknown reason. However, when the passengers were handed a free meal voucher for their trouble, the “reason” for the emergency landing became quite clear: a bomb threat. The voucher claimed the passengers were given the free meal because of a “bomb.”

The Daily Mail reports that passengers on a Scandinavian Airlines flight from London to Stockholm were treated to a free meal after their plane made an emergency landing at Landvetter airport in Gothenburg, Sweden. Passengers note that the plane was taxied to a “remote” area of the airport before being evacuated from the plane. However, at the time of the evacuation, the passengers did not know what was going on with the plane or why they made the emergency landing. Instead, confused passengers took to Twitter to question what was happening with their flight. One passenger questioning the premature landing was professional racing driver Tom Onslow-Cole.

The race car driver kept his followers updated about the happenings on the Scandinavian Airlines flight by posting information about the detour as it was made available to him. He notes that everyone was evacuated from the plane after it landed and noted that the crew and captain were evacuated with the passengers. He said the plane was located on the end of a runway and everyone was taken to a bus to move them away from the plane. The passenger noted that the plane “came down quickly” before taking the aircraft to the end of the runway where a bus too the passengers and crew away from the vessel.

After getting inside the airport, as passengers were still unaware of why they made the emergency landing, all people from the Scandinavian Airlines flight were given free food vouchers to use in the airport food court. On the food voucher, it was very clear why the plane had landed: a bomb threat.

The “bomb” voucher didn’t sugar-coat the issue and it was confirmed the plane had landed due to a bomb threat. Despite the threat, Tom said that the pilot and crew maintained their cool and got everyone to safety.

Reports later indicated that the bomb threat was called in to air traffic controllers after the plane had already taken to the air. Therefore, the pilot was notified and an emergency landing was made. Bomb technicians were on the scene as the airplane was taxied to the remote areas of the airport and passengers were loaded onto a bus and taken to safety. In addition to checking out the Scandinavian Airlines plane, all airline traffic at the airport was temporarily halted but later resumed as no bomb was found on the plane.

Additionally, air traffic controllers confirmed that all incoming flights at Sweden’s second-biggest airport were diverted until an all clear was given by bomb technicians.

What do you think about Scandinavian Airlines memo indicating the “reason” for the food vouchers? Do you think the blunt response to the bomb scare was appropriate?
