‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: ‘Days’ Alum, Joseph Mascolo, To Take Over The Role Of Papa Santori?

The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Luca Santori’s (Miles Gaston Villanueva) father could arrive in Genoa City shortly. Not much was known about Luca’s father other than he had business ties to Marco Annicelli (Peter Bergman) and had substantial criminal ties. Luca’s dad could be a great addition to the show, and bring the much-needed action to the storylines. The Young and the Restless audience agrees on one fact — to bring Papa Santori on successfully, the powers that be will need to cast the right person in the role. They need to cast someone who is completely at ease with being a villain.

CBS Soaps In Depth reported in the newest edition that The Young and the Restless was considering bringing Days of Our Lives alum Joseph Mascolo in the role of Luca’s father. Joseph recently left the role of Stefano DiMera on Days after suffering severe health ailments over the past few years. He spent over three decades in the role on Days and felt it was the time to retire. On January 15, Stefano was killed by Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) on Days of Our Lives.

Many fans questioned if Mascolo would agree to a short stint on The Young and the Restless, considering his health is not in the greatest condition right now. Over the past few years, Joseph has reduced his time on air because he just cannot keep up anymore. If he wasn’t able to keep up with a role he portrayed for over 30 years, and on a part-time basis, what are the chances that Mascolo would take on a new role, on a new show where he would have to learn the new character background?

Celeb Dirty Laundry blasted the article suggesting that Joseph Mascolo would be a lousy choice as Luca’s father on The Young and the Restless. Many of their reasons were valid; however, often CBS Soaps in Depth has inside scoops and may know that Mascolo agreed to the role — they may not be able to print it just yet. The most important reason they gave to why Joseph may not agree to appear on Y&R is his health. If his health was not a concern, his fans feel pretty confident he’d agree to a fresh soap role in a heart beat.

At this point, The Young and the Restless must bring someone experienced in to portray the older character of Papa Santori for the storyline to progress. Without the father coming to Genoa City, there will be no progression or settlement achieved on the CBS soap opera. For Mr. Santori to be pulled off in a compelling fashion, they need to cast a seasoned vet in the role — which is the reason CBS Soaps In Depth suggested the talented Joseph Mascolo for the complex role.

CBS and The Young and the Restless have not confirmed nor denied they contacted Joseph Mascolo to portray Mr. Santori. At the moment, it is pure speculation that he was asked to appear on the number one soap opera. Fortunately, if Mr. Mascolo is unable to commit to the small role, there are plenty of other older talented Latin actors to choose from; however, narrowing it down could be a daunting task. Eventually, it is almost guaranteed that The Young and the Restless will find the perfect Mr. Santori. The burning question that everyone wants to know right now is if, and when, they will confirm (or deny) that Joseph Mascolo will be joining the cast of Y&R.
