Demi Lovato Confident With Her Body In ‘No Photoshop’ Photo Shoot

Demi Lovato recently showed off her makeup-free face and body for a “no photoshop” photo shoot. The “Cool for the Summer” singer went on her social media and gave her fans a Photoshop-free picture of herself, revealing a look at her new Allure magazine shoot for the upcoming February issue.

“Behind the scenes (and bathroom door) of my Allure cover shoot,” the 23-year-old pop singer wrote in an Instagram post. “Posting a #nophotoshop pic because I’m proud to show my body the way it naturally is.. (And there was great lighting…)”

Demi Lovato has been open about her struggles with insecurity and her eating disorder for the last few months. She has been regaining her confidence and feeling more comfortable in her own skin, detailing her issues with bulimia and self-harm in her music. And her sense of style has evolved as well, with the singer feeling very comfortable showing more skin and showing off her body, breaking away from her squeaky-clean Disney roots, whether she is clothed or nude.

“A year ago, on tour, almost every inch of my body was covered by clothing, and it was because I was hiding behind so many layers,” Demi Lovato says, speaking with Allure. “Once I started feeling better about myself, I felt better about showing more skin. I have insecurities about my arms, so to wear a tank top on stage is extremely liberating for me, and uncomfortable sometimes. It’s also a statement, like, ‘Hey, watch out. You’re no longer getting the insecure Demi that you’ve been getting for the past couple of years. I mean business now.'”

Demi Lovato, during the Allure interview, revealed that early on in her career when she landed a role on Camp Rock with the Disney Channel, the producers pulled her aside and asked her if she would be willing to have the gap she had between her two front teeth fixed. It’s a decision the singer regrets, as she found her gap to be very cute, Daily Mail reports. Lovato wants to use her own story to help others who may be dealing with the same issues she has dealt with. “I realized I could help people,” Demi said.

So, Demi Lovato has been promoting a very healthy and positive body image, but has received some backlash as to what she chooses to wear. Some fans are telling her that she has changed, due to her wearing sexier and more revealing outfits, but she herself certainly doesn’t find that decision to be a problem. Not too long ago, every inch of Lovato’s body would be covered up when she was on tour, purposefully trying to hide behind layers. But once she began feeling better about her self-image, she began showing off more of her arms, for example, as that was an uncomfortable thing for her to do at the time.

Lovato now has a nutritionist sending her food, and she exercises regularly when she is on the road, saying that what she eats doesn’t rule her life anymore.

“What does it mean to be confident?” she asked Vanity Fair in late 2015. “It means letting go, being authentic, saying I don’t give a f**k and this is who I am. I want to show the side of me that’s real, that’s liberated, that’s free. What if we do a photo shoot where it’s totally raw? Super sexy, but no makeup, no fancy lighting, no retouching and no clothing. Let’s do it here, let’s do it now.”
