Ringo Starr Turns 72, Celebrates Birthday With ‘Peace And Love’

Ringo Starr turned 72 on Saturday. The Beatles drummer celebrated his birthday on Saturday with a “peace and love” moment at noon.

According to ABC, the pop icon asked his fans to do the same at noon in their time zones around the world.

Ringo said:

“Wherever you are — on a bus, in the office, in the studio, hanging out … whatever you’re doing, at noon, just go, ‘Peace and love.’ That’s all I ask for my birthday. Peace and love.”

Starr has apparently been having a “peace and love” moment on his birthday since 2008. He had the idea in 2008 when a reporter asked him what he wanted for his birthday. Ringo, of course, wanted peace and love.

Ringo said:

“It’s sort of catching on more and more, the more we do… We got lots of blogs from Japan and China and all over the world saying, `We did peace and love.’ So it’s working.”

Starr held his “peace and love” event this year at the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville. Hundreds of Beatles fans turned out and sang “happy birthday” to the singer. They also, of course, chanted “peace and love” at noon.
