‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’: Tim Curry Comes Back Into The Time Warp For Remake Of Cult Classic

In 2015, Rocky Horror Picture Show celebrated its 40th anniversary as one of the greatest cult classic movies of all time. Now, Rocky Horror Picture Show is being remade by Fox TV for a new generation to discover what the craziness is all about.

The biggest news about the remake from Fox came when they announced that the lead role of Dr. Frank -N-Furter would be played by the transgender actress Laverne Cox. Cox is known for her role in Orange Is The New Black, and the announcement set off a social media firestorm among Rocky Horror fans. That news was recently shattered when Fox announced that the original Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Tim Curry, will be joining the new cast of Rocky Horror Picture Show as the Criminologist. Tim Curry commented on his new role and his old role.

“I am very happy and excited to be a part of this new event. ‘[I view it] with a sort of bemused tolerance. It’s neither a blessing nor a curse.”

When news broke of Tim Curry’s role in the new Rocky Horror Picture Show, Twitter exploded.

For those that do not know, the Criminologist is the narrator of the story. Originally played by Charles Gray, the Criminologist walks the audience through the events of Brad and Janet’s night out. The Criminologist also instructs the audience on how to properly do the Time Warp. When seeing either a live shadow cast of the movie or the actual movie, the Criminologist is viewed as the most hated character. The audience makes sure to scream a slew of vulgar terms at the character that are not appropriate for this article. It may be hard to view Tim Curry as the new most hated character in Rocky Horror Picture Show.

As of now, the cast list is as follows.

  • Victoria Justice as Janet – A Heroine
  • Ryan McCarten as Brad Majors – A Hero
  • Laverne Cox as Dr. Frank-N-Furter – A Scientist
  • Reeve Carney as Riff Raff – A Handyman
  • Staz Nair as Rocky Horror – A Creation
  • Adam Lambert as Eddie – An Ex-Delivery Boy
  • Tim Curry as The Criminologist – An Expert

The announcement of Adam Lambert playing the role of Eddie was announced on Thursday.

Besides his short tweet, Lambert gave a longer comment about being part of Rocky Horror Picture Show.

“I grew up watching ‘Rocky Horror,’ but could never imagine that I would be part of this new vision. ‘Rocky Horror’ always made me feel like it was OK to celebrate my weirdness. Hallelujah, bless my soul! I love that old time rock-n-roll!”

The Fox TV remake is set for the fall of 2016, likely around Halloween. Three large roles still remain open. The roles of Magenta, Columbia, and Dr. Scott, once they are cast, will round out this generation’s Rocky Horror Picture Show. Rumors of who will be playing these roles are circulating, but none of them are strong enough to report. Based on the cast so far, Fox has a plan and will find the perfect actors to bring the rest of the iconic roles to life.

As for Tim Curry, he will be the bridge between the old and new generation of Rocky Horror fans. Perhaps others from the original cast will become involved in this new vision. At least now, Tim Curry is finally going home.
