Lamar Odom Update: When Will He Be Transfered To Rehab? Plus, His ‘Emotional’ Reunion With Kids

Lamar Odom has been in the hospital for nearly three months, but soon, he will be relocated to a rehabilitation facility in California, where his recovery will continue. Last month, Us Weekly reported news of Lamar Odom’s impending transfer to rehab, claiming it could happen any day. However, over two weeks later, it hasn’t happened.

“[Lamar Odom] gets better a little bit every day,” the source told the magazine on December 20. “He took a few steps without the walker. It’s very slow and he’s supposed to go to the rehab any day now.”

Lamar Odom was hospitalized on October 13, 2015, after suffering a drug overdose at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch, a legal brothel located in Pahrump, Nevada. After being discovered by two women working at the facility, Lamar Odom was taken to the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, where he remained in a coma for three days.

After hearing of Lamar Odom’s hospitalization, the former NBA star’s estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, boarded a private jet with mother Kris Jenner and sister Kim Kardashian, who was pregnant at the time, and headed to Sin City to be with him as he recovered. Lamar Odom’s two children, Lamar Odom Jr. and Destiny Odom, also flew to Las Vegas.

While Lamar Odom’s prognosis wasn’t good in the days that followed his overdose, he eventually turned things around, and after awaking from his coma, he was transferred to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he has been under medical care ever since.

Because Lamar Odom’s children reside with their mother in New York City, and are currently enrolled in school there, they haven’t been able to spend much time with their father in the hospital. However, just after Christmas, the two children flew to Los Angeles, where they visited Lamar Odom and celebrated the holiday season.

“[Lamar Odom] is doing way better. He was so happy the kids were there with him for Christmas and they were so happy to be with him,” a source told Us Weekly on January 4. “The kids were happy … to bring him gifts, all of his favorite things that they wrapped up. They had so much fun. It was very emotional and very happy.”

While visiting Lamar Odom at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the athlete’s son shared the first photo of him on Instagram. Since Lamar Odom was hospitalized, no personal photos had been shared until his teen son posted the photo to his friends and followers, claiming he and Destiny were “blessed” to be with their dad for the holidays.

According to a report by the Standard on January 4, Kardashian recently spoke with talk show host Ellen Degeneres, revealing her husband had made strides since his hospitalization, but that he still had a lot of recovering to do.

“[Lamar Odom] is off all the machines that help his organs, but he has such a long way to go,” Kardashian said. “He’s learning how to walk again and feed himself again and put sentences together. Cognitively, there is a lot it’s a long long road ahead.”

Lamar Odom and Kardashian ended their relationship in 2013 after four years of marriage, but have yet to officially finalize their divorce. Although the former couple hasn’t been together romantically in years, they are technically still married, which left Kardashian (who is currently dating James Harden) in charge of making his medical decisions when he was in a coma.
