‘The School Compnay Is Taking A Brake’ — Little Girl’s Attempt At Getting Another Week Off School Goes Viral

As the holiday season comes to a close, many people will be returning to work and school far earlier than they’d like. One little girl from Ballard West Elementary School in Slater, Iowa was so desperate to keep her winter break going that she decided to forge a letter from her school to trick her father into letting her stay home for another week. The adorably unconvincing note has since gone viral after her dad posted a photo of it on Reddit.

According to ABC News, 7-year-old Cara Grimard had to return to her second grade class today (Monday) despite her best efforts to swindle her parents. While she may have failed to play hooky for another week, the little girl succeeded in getting the Internet’s attention. Since her father, Terry Grimard, posted a picture of the letter on Reddit, the image has amassed more than 2.5 million views.

“It’s amazing,” Terry said. “When I posted it, I didn’t think anything of it. When I looked last night, I said ‘Wow, it’s kind of blown up.'”

You can see the viral photo below, featuring the full letter, hand-written by the little girl to look like a permission slip for extending the holiday break another seven days. As if the marker handwriting of a little girl wasn’t enough to give away the note’s origin, the letter is full of hilarious misspellings.

The letter says, “the school compnay is taking a brake so the kids will get one more week of school off and we will need your child to sign their name here.”

The note then has a green arrow that points to a line for a signature, on which the little girl signed her name “cara G.” She even included a stamp of the Disney princess Rapunzel to look like an official seal from the school.

The little girl reportedly brought this note to her father, claiming that it had just come in the mail and was sent as an official note from the elementary school. According to Fox News, the little girl’s father shared the image with the heading: “My daughter got the mail today (it’s Sunday), apparently they have another week off school.”

While her father didn’t buy the note for a second, he did empathize with her, because he had to go back to work as well.

“I kept teasing her because I was off from work also. I was saying ‘Guess what Monday is? I have to go back to work and you have to go back to school. She jokes around like she doesn’t like school, but she does, she enjoys it.”

While it may seem like a desperate effort to prolong the holiday break, Terry Grimard suggested that his daughter wasn’t actually convinced the letter was going to work, but that she figured it was worth a try.

“She kind of had a little sly grin,” said the little girl’s father. “She wasn’t being serious, she knew I wouldn’t buy it. It was just really cute and she’s this funny character in general.”

Even if Cara only wrote the forged permission slip as a joke, it was still popular enough on Reddit to quickly go viral. The little girl’s mother didn’t think the note was worth saving until her husband showed her how famous it had become on the Internet. After that, she decided it was worth keeping as a memory that will probably keep the Grimard family laughing for a long time.

Do you think you would have been fooled by this little girl’s fake letter?
