Jaden Smith Models Women’s Line for Vuitton
It seems that 17-year-old Jaden Smith has unusual taste in fashion. It is more attention-grabbing than the outfits his father chose in the show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. While he follows a passion for fashion like his mother, he possesses his dad’s “push a few buttons” attitude. Jaden recently signed on as the new face of Louis Vuitton, as the model for the 2016 Spring/Summer collection … for women. The Smiths are not strangers to outrageous trends and statements, but that does not mean there are not a few mixed reactions from the public.
Young Jaden has made front-page news all across the world ever since he was born. Son of the Fresh Prince himself and fashion princess Jada Pinkett, fans knew he would do great, strange things. This is why few people batted an eye when the young rapper/actor attended the wedding of Kim and Kanye dressed to impress as one of his favorite superheroes, Batman. Wait, what?
“I’m just expressing how I feel inside, which is really no particular way because everyday it changes how I feel about the world and myself,” Vibe quotes Jaden on his new fashion path. His parents are huge celebrities, so it is natural that he would wish to make his own print on the world outside of their shadow. None of us foresaw superhero costumes or women’s clothing, but it will be interesting to see where it all leads young Jaden.
It is no surprise that Vuitton chose Jaden as the new face behind their new campaign. His daring wardrobe choices have made waves all across the world, spreading through social media like wildfire. These were recently tweeted to Jaden’s page.

“I like wearing super drapey things so I can feel as though I’m a super hero, but don’t have to necessarily wear super hero costumes everyday,” Jaden says. It sounds like perhaps he is more his father’s son than even he realizes, since the senior Smith has played more than one heroic character.
Will Smith may have handed over his eccentric wardrobe throne to Jaden, but he smiles with pride at any mention of his heir. Despite falling to the losing end of the conversation when he tried to convince Jaden to wear a nice suit to his friend Kanye’s wedding, he laughs about the occasion, joking that the tie Jaden sported was his wife Jada’s doing.
Young Jaden has rocked his acting career with movies such as After Earth, where he starred with his father. It is about time he fulfilled some of his fashion career destiny, and it is no real surprise he is doing so in the wild Will Smith fashion. It would not be believable if he did it any other way.
Perhaps Jaden’s superhero fascination is the true explanation behind his decision to model women’s clothes. On the other hand, perhaps he just does not want to hurt his father’s feelings by telling him that his mother’s fashion sense is more appealing. It compares to Will Smith’s choices back in the 80’s. However, no one is proud of wardrobe choices in the 80’s, so we cannot be too hard on him. Moreover, there is no way Will Smith would ever be hard on him, especially considering that Jaden is the new face of Louis Vuitton. Any parent would be proud to say their child was a spokesperson for Louis Vuitton, even if they modeled potato sacks.
Maybe young Jaden will alter society’s perception of gender norms when it comes to fashion and wardrobe at last. That would be a feat of a lifetime to accomplish. Will and Jada are already proud of all of their children, and an achievement like that would make Smith, and world, history.
