Gwen Stefani Talks Makeup Obsession, Miranda Lambert Says Blake Shelton Preferred Her Without It

Gwen Stefani has revealed who first inspired her obsession with makeup, and it may surprise you to learn that it wasn’t Marilyn Monroe or another platinum blonde glam goddess. Gwen has said that she loves her makeup so much that she won’t leave the house without putting her face on, and this could cause a bit of tension between the “Magic’s In the Makeup” singer and her new beau, Blake Shelton. According to Miranda Lambert, her ex is a big fan of the natural look.

During an interview published in the print edition of Hello! magazine, Gwen Stefani opened up about her love of makeup. According to The Voice coach, she started experimenting with lipstick, mascara, and blush when she discovered that the mom of a childhood friend had a massive stash of Mary Kay products.

“Her mom had so much Mary Kay, it was off the chart,” Stefani said, according to tv3.ie. “I’d tell Amy to ask her mom if we could play with her makeup. I always loved it.”

Gwen Stefani’s obsession with makeup grew when she scored a job working at a department store in Anaheim, California. She was stationed in the “older women’s clothing department,” but her dream was to work behind the makeup counter. According to Gwen Stefani, she was in awe of the snobbish girls who got to give shoppers mini makeovers.

“Those were the stuck-up hot girls behind the counter that made you feel really intimated,” Stefani said.

Gwen Stefani eventually got her wish, and working behind the makeup counter probably inspired her to experiment with face paint even more. Gwen was never trained in the art of makeup application, so she had to wing it whenever a woman asked for winged eyeliner and brown lipstick with visible lip liner (this was an actual ’90s trend).

“Later, I did that. I worked in a mall that didn’t even give you any lessons – they just put you there and said, ‘OK, put the make-up on.'”

Now Gwen Stefani loves makeup so much that she recently teamed up with Urban Decay to create her own eye shadow palette (just imagine how jealous those “stuck-up hot girls” at the mall makeup counter must be). While talking to Refinery 29 about her new eye shadow collection, Gwen revealed that Marilyn Monroe eventually became one of main sources of makeup inspiration.

“I’ve always loved a cat-eye and I’ve always loved a pretty arched and defined brow. It all comes from being obsessed with old movies, Marilyn Monroe, and Old Hollywood.”

Unfortunately for Gwen Stefani, new boyfriend Blake Shelton doesn’t seem to share her love of the heavily made-up look. According to People, Blake Shelton’s ex, Miranda Lambert, once said that the “Don’t Make Me” singer preferred the way she looked with minimal makeup on.

“He’s one of those dudes who’s like, ‘You look prettier without it,'” Miranda revealed. “I think, ‘Stop! Really? This took me three hours!'”

Even though the “Little Red Wagon” singer wanted Blake Shelton to appreciate how much time it took her to get ready for shows and other special events, she doesn’t like getting all glammed up all the time. Miranda Lambert says that she doesn’t wear a lot of makeup at home, and she also doesn’t go overboard with it when she’s running errands – she feels perfectly comfortable stepping out with nothing on but a little tinted moisturizer, lip gloss, and mascara.

Blake Shelton’s new ladylove is a different story. According to Gwen Stefani, she puts on a full face of makeup even if she’s not planning on lounging around at home all day.

“The makeup goes on every day, even if I’m not going anywhere,” Gwen told InStyle.

As The Inquisitr previously reported, Gwen Stefani has revealed that her ex, Gavin Rossdale, doesn’t share Blake Shelton’s views on makeup. According to the “Underneath It All” singer, Gavin Rossdale thought she was more attractive with her full face of makeup on, so Gwen dutifully put her face on everyday in hopes that it would make her husband like her more.

Even though Gwen Stefani loves her makeup, it looks like Blake Shelton might be convincing her that she doesn’t need to wear so much of it all the time. As you can see, Gwen Stefani actually looks pretty fresh-faced in the photo below that was taken at a Atwoods store near Blake’s hometown of Tishomingo, Oklahoma.

Last month, Gwen Stefani also shared a photo of herself wearing little or no makeup while rocking Blake Shelton’s camo baseball cap.
