Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach: Miss Universe 2015 Is An E.L.F. And Has A K-Pop Crush On Siwon Of Super Junior
This year’s edition of the Miss Universe Pageant was unique from past pageants in many ways. First, Miss Universe 2015 was the first pageant to be held under the ownership of WME/IMG, the organization that purchased the Miss Universe Organization from Donald Trump back in September. It was also the first Miss Universe Pageant to be aired by Fox and Azteca. However, Miss Universe 2015 will probably be remembered for being the first to televise a notable error pertaining to who won the pageant. The show’s host Steve Harvey announced Miss Columbia, Ariadna Gutiérrez, as Miss Universe 2015. However, Harvey read the card incorrectly and the true winner was Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. Needless to say, the mistake led to online debates, flame wars, and conspiracy theories, especially on social media.
One of the most debilitating situations to come in the aftermath of the Miss Universe 2015 error is people verbally attacking Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. Many have said she “stole the crown” from Ariadna Gutiérrez despite the fact she had nothing to do with the error in the first place. However, there is one huge group of people who are standing behind Wurtzbach and they are known as E.L.F., the devoted fan club of K-pop boy group Super Junior. The reason is because fellow E.L.F. members found out that Wurtzbach is an E.L.F. herself. She even has a K-pop celebrity crush on one of Super Junior’s members, Siwon.
K-pop fans, especially those who are a part of E.L.F., will have to thank the more hardcore netizens in the K-pop community for finding this tidbit of information pertaining to Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach out. According to Soompi, they discovered that Wurtzbach was at least a serious E.L.F. back in 2009. One such netizen made a tweet on their account laying out Wurtzbach’s tweets pertaining to Super Junior and Siwon.

Apparently, the K-pop community truly believes Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is in fact still an E.L.F. Their reason is Wurtzbach wearing a sapphire blue gown for her big moment to be crowned Miss Universe 2015. For those who do not know, many K-pop groups and artists have an official color. Super Junior’s so happens to be sapphire blue.

The sapphire blue gown is of course speculation among the K-pop community. Still, word that Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was an E.L.F. eventually reached Super Junior. Siwon was unable to comment at the time because of conscription (mandatory military service). In his stead, Leeteuk, the leader of Super Junior, took to his Instagram account to provide thanks on Siwon’s behalf, as reported by Manila Bulletin.
“Congratulations Miss Universe. I saw on the news the error in the announcement of the No. 1 rank. Congratulations to an E.L.F. who loves Siwon of Super Junior. We also heard that you dressed up with the same color code as ours. Once again, congratulations!”
Eventually, Siwon was able to comment on his own behalf via his official Instagram account, as reported by Inquirer. Siwon not only congratulated Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, but he invited her as a guest to his next supershow, most likely after he is done with his military service and back in Super Junior. Wurtzbach did not waste any time responding to Siwon, thanking him, than saying “Annyeonghaseyo” which is Romanized Korean for “Hello.”
The K-pop community as well as Super Junior standing by Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is surely a shining light for her out of the shadow of the Miss Universe 2015 error. Maybe winning the crown won’t be Wurtzbach’s shining moment if her daydreams of becoming Mrs. Choi Siwon, a relationship many K-pop fans are now shipping, actually come true.
