Sam Smith Adds Four New Symbolic Tattoos In Advance of 2016 Golden Globe Awards
Sam Smith, the popular singer now best known for his song “The Writing’s On The Wall” from the new James Bond film 007 caper Spectre, has added four new tattoos to his body. According to celeb site Just Jared, Smith has inked up two of his fingers as well as both of his arms in recent days with choice images and words that might be surprising to many of the U.K. singer’s fans.
“So honoured & overwhelmed to not only have met this incredible artist, but to have her tattoo four bits of work on my body today,” wrote the 23-year-old crooner Sam Smith on his Instagram account. “Such an inspiring human xx my next few photos shall be the tats…”

Sam Smith’s new artwork included four designs by artist Stanislava “Miso” Pinchuk, a Ukranian tattoo artist who offers her self-described “minimalistic” designs out of Tokyo, Japan, and Melbourne, Australia for little or no pay.
In a 2014 interview, Pinchuk once told Bored Panda that she considers her designs to be “too important and intimate for me to take money,” explaining that her designs are shared with others such as Smith in exchange for “what someone feels it’s worth – maybe they teach me a skill in return, cook me dinner, give me a book I would love, assistant work, whiskey. You never know.”
“Everyone feels good about it, which I like,” added Miso. “More and more, I feel like it’s becoming a bigger part of my practice.”
Sam Smith’s new artwork includes the following designs.
- An equality sign on Smith’s left ring finger, representing the homosexual star’s “views on gay marriage and equality for all.”
- A similar tattoo on his right ring finger that is “inspired by one of the oldest tattoos ever found on a mummified body… buried alone in the ice.”
- A right-arm inscription of the word “Honesty,” to remind himself of what Sam Smith strives for in his music. “It’s what I live by,” noted Smith.
- A tattoo on Smith’s left arm that reads “Alone.” “This is just me being a melancholy twat,” laughed the singer. “I do see it as a small positive though…. No longer lonely… just alone.”
The new additions to Sam Smith’s body, however, could only pale in comparison to the potential new additions to the British singer’s trophy case.
Sam Smith has picked up a nomination for “Best Original Song” for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards, which take place on January 10, 2016 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Smith’s “The Writing’s On The Wall,” which The Metro noted was co-written by Smith and Jimmy Napes for 007 caper Spectre, was one of five original songs to receive the nod.
The news also comes off of the release of “Drowning Shadows,” which the Inquisitr noted is considered by Sam Smith to be his “saddest song ever” in light of his having never had a boyfriend. In particular, Smith laments one relationship where he perhaps took things too fast to social media.

“I made a mistake by posting pictures of us on Instagram and making it seem more serious than it was,” Sam Smith told Daily Mail back in February of the relationship that did not end in heartbreak, but rather the realization that he and his partner were ill-suited for one another. “I’ve learned that I need to hold off before I start getting the public involved.”
