‘Prison Break’ Season 5 Release Date Confirmed For 2016 By Fox — How Does Wentworth Miller’s Michael Live? [Spoilers]

Wentworth Miller’s death scene is probably the defining moment of the Prison Break Season 4 finale. One problem: it probably never happened. Now that we know that the Prison Break Season 5 release date is coming up soon in 2016, how can the writers justify bringing Michael Scofield back to life? There are many theories on how this might happen, but the hint may be origami.

[UPDATE] In Janury, Dominic Purcell gave more details about the premiere date. Check out the new article to see the latest.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, Fox Co-Chairman and CEO Dana Walden has confirmed that Prison Break Season 5 will be released in a similar manner to 24: Live Another Day. Only 10 episodes have been commissioned by Fox so far, and we don’t know if it will have a title change, similar to Heroes: Reborn.

When Fox Chairman and CEO Gary Newman made the announcement back in August, he also said that both Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell would be coming back for the Prison Break sequel. The on-screen brothers are currently busy with The Flash and the upcoming 2016 Legends Of Tomorrow TV show as Captain Cold and Heat Wave, but Walden made it clear that both actors are coming back.

“I would describe it as a bit of a sequel. It picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back,” Walden said, according to TV Line. “Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back. I don’t think [exec producer] Paul [Scheuring] knows exactly where he’s going over the 10-episode arc, but it definitely will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience.”

One of those obvious questions is how Michael Scofield lived. Not only did he still have a brain tumor, based upon the nosebleeds, he also was electrocuted during the straight-to-DVD release, Prison Break: The Final Break. Newman joked that Michael’s death scene will essentially be ignored as a plot point, but Walden says there will be a logical reason for why Wentworth Miller’s character is still alive and escaping from high security prisons.

“What [Paul] pitched to us was a very logical and believable — in the world of Prison Break — explanation for why our characters are alive and still moving around the world,” Walden said.

The Fox exec says fans should be excited to see Michael Scofield and the other characters come back together again. Walden says Prison Break Season 5 will represent a “pure vision” by show creator Paul Scheuring, but it will also take a “detour” from where the DVD ending left fans. The Fox producer says it should be seen as an “event” to commemorate Fox’s anniversary, and he believes fans should feel very satisfied by the end.

Presumably, fans are going to hear that Michael essentially faked us all out, similar to how The Walking Dead Season 6 tried to make Glenn seem like he died. We do know that Sara and Lincoln are living a life outside of the United States, despite being officially pardoned. But otherwise, the only confirmation of Michael’s death was a visit to a tombstone and a video where he spoke to his family for one last time.

“You know we spend so much of our lives not saying the things we want to say,” said Michael during the Prison Break ending. “The things we should say. We speak in code, we send little messages; origami. So now, plainly, simply, I want to say that I love you both. Very much. And I want you to promise me, that you’re gonna tell my child… that you’re gonna tell my child how much they’re loved everyday. And remind them how lucky they are… to be free, because we are. We’re free now, finally. We’re free.”

Fans believe this section contains the hint that Michael is alive. After all, the visit to the tombstone shows Lincoln leaving an origami crane on top of the tombstone, but was it just symbolic or did he just leave a “little message” for his brother? The belief is that Michael faked his death in order to keep Sara safe, which seems fairly logical.

However the show runners choose to bring Michael back to life, fans just can’t wait until it’s here. According to Movie News Guide, the Prison Break Season 5 release date is being set for March of 2016, but this information is not official, so don’t be surprised if the Prison Break sequel does not break out until later in the year.
