Simon Cowell Feared For Son’s Safety: Burglary Incident ‘Frightened’ Mogul

Simon Cowell was recently the victim of a burglary at his home, and the mogul admitted that he feared for his son’s safety. The family’s home was broken into by a thief as they slept in the residence, which is located in an upscale neighborhood in Holland Park, west London. According to Daily Mail Online, the TV host and his family are fine, albeit a little shocked by the situation. Cowell was resting with his girlfriend, Lauren Silverman, and his 21-month-old son, Eric, when a man broke into his mansion and stole a large amount of cash and jewelry.

Cowell said it is “frightening” that someone was able to break into their home, but said the situation could have been worse as no one was hurt. According to police reports, the man stole jewelry and money — believed to have been worth around £500,000 — from Cowell’s safe.

Cowell’s bodyguard was awakened after the alarm sounded in the house. The alarm went off at 2:20 a.m. local time in London. Cowell reportedly rushed to check on his son after the bodyguard woke them to tell them of the break-in.

Cowell — who is most recognized as a judge on the British TV talent competition series Pop Idol, The X Factor, and Britain’s Got Talent, and the American TV talent competition shows American Idol, and X Factor — gave the following statement regarding the incident.

”It was nerve-racking. Lauren was woken up with me and we checked on Eric,” Simon said. “That was the first thing we did, to make sure he was OK. Apart from the fact someone broke into my house and stole my stuff, which is scary, it could have been worse. Thankfully no one was hurt.”

It was not known how the thief managed to enter the residence and police are investigating whether the burglary was planned or not.

Hours after the robbery, Cowell attended rehearsals of the semi-final X Factor. According to Huffington Post U.K., Cowell mentioned the burglary on Saturday night’s show. He jokingly referred to Reggie ‘N’ Bollie’s song Locked Away as being “very appropriate the night after I get burgled.”

Simon also revealed he plans to increase his security in light of the incident. When he was asked to put a price on the stolen items, he gave the following response.

”I don’t want to talk about that. The insurance company will cover that,” he said. ”It was some jewelry. That’s a pain in the (expletive) but the most important thing is to make sure everyone is OK.

”What’s more concerning is how we stop people getting into this house. Wherever you live someone can get in. Maybe I have to get bigger guard dogs.”

This is not the first time someone has broken into Simon’s property. In 2012, Leanee Zaloumis received a restraining order after she broke a window with a brick. The woman had reportedly been stalking him. After breaking into his home, she hid on a shelf in his giant wardrobe holding a brick. Cowell was watching TV when he heard a loud noise so he alerted members of his security team who acted quickly and took the suspect to the authorities.
