Thunder Coach Scott Brooks Hopes To Discuss Contract In ‘Next Few Days’

Oklahoma City Thunder Coach Scott Brooks will soon be a free agent. Brooks, who led his team to the NBA Finals this year only to suffer a disappointing loss against the Miami Heat, hopes to talk with the organization about his contract in the “next few days.”

USA Today reports that Brooks will officially be a free agent at the end of the month. The Thunder have improved every year with Brooks so far and the Thunder are expected to bring Brooks back to OKC next year.

The Washington Post reports that the two parties have had limited opportunities to talk about the new contract. The 2011-12 season saw teams playing games every other night and since the Thunder reached the finals there has been little time to talk about the future.

Brooks told NBA.com that he was proud of his team this year. Brooks said:

“It obviously was a great experience… We have a lot to be proud of. We have a lot that we can improve on also and our guys understand that. Everybody on our team should and will come back a better player.”

Brooks also said that he is looking toward the future and has already handed out assignments to his players to improve for next season. Brooks said:

“I’m going to meet with every player this afternoon and I will discuss (next season.) It’s a long list. I throw a lot of things at guys. I think we have multiple players that can improve on all areas of the game. Then we have some players that have to focus on one or two areas of the game.”

Do you think the Oklahoma City Thunder will be championship contenders next year?
