The ‘Outlander’ Season 2 Trailer Finally Premieres, Plus Sam Heughan Says ‘Love Changes Everything’ For Jamie and Claire

It may have been long in waiting, but the first glimpses of Outlander’s second season have finally arrived. In the first official trailer to be released for the show’s second season, fans were treated to a look at how things are shaping up for Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe), who now find themselves in Paris, France. Along with seeing Claire sporting a bigger belly and Jamie wearing pants, what else did the trailer reveal?

The trailer, which has been posted by E! Online, features a lot of scenes in France. While it has not been a massive secret that the show would be set in France for Season 2, fans still had a lot of questions on how the look and feel of the show would change with the new setting. Thankfully, the trailer provided some answers.

According to Cinemablend, the most significant change is in the costume department. In particular, the heavy wool costumes typical with Scotsman has been replaced with the fine lace of Paris. In addition to the costumes, the views of Paris in the trailer are also revealing and prove just how focused the new season will be in the famed city.

Meanwhile, the trailer also featured some pretty heavy action sequences, including a few shots of Jamie wielding a sword in what appears to be intense combat scenes. This is also not a huge surprise, given the events that happened in the second book of the hit series by Diana Gabaldon, titled “Dragonfly in Amber.”

In fact, as per the book, Jamie and Claire are going to France in order to prevent the Jacobite Rebellion from ever happening. In order to accomplish this difficult task, the two will be come face to face with some fairly dangerous situations.

That being said, perhaps the biggest development in the new season is in regards to Jamie and Claire’s relationship. Following all of the events that went down in the first season, including Jamie’s prison ordeal, the two are definitely going to be facing a number of new challenges as they head out for a new location.

In speaking about how his character has developed since the first season, Heughan told Gold Derby that his character’s life was forever changed by his encounter with the time traveler.

“He’s quite a modern man, for his time, but he still has this moral code that is of the period,” Heughan explained. “When we first meet Jamie, he is this young man who has no responsibilities; he has been running away from a lot of his past relationships and things that have happened in his life and he has returned to Scotland. And this amazing figure, [in the form] of Claire, almost virtually falls into his lap, or into his life and she changes everything.”

With their relationship continuing to evolve over the course of the series, what is in store for Jamie and Claire in Season 2?

“Jamie and Claire have gone to France on this mission, which is basically to change history, to stop the Jacobite Rebellion …” Heughan stated. “They’re on this mission, but they still have a lot to deal with. Jamie has the trauma he is still dealing with, and Claire is now pregnant. It’s a really tough time for them because they have a lot personally to deal with.”

With a child on the way and a rebellion to prevent, the couple’s relationship is surely going to be tested as Outlander moves on to its second season. Whether or not they are able to accomplish their goals will only be revealed when Season 2 premieres in the spring of 2016.
