‘Quantum Break’, ‘Far Cry Primal’ Head 10 Debuts At The Game Awards 2015

What does the Game Awards 2015 have that award shows for the movie and music industries don’t? The chance to catch world premiere trailers for upcoming PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC games. Microsoft is already touting the time-bending Quantum Break and other world premieres, while the stone-age Far Cry Primal has been confirmed. What else should gamers expect?

The Game Awards 2015 show will broadcast live on Thursday, December 3 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The awards show will be available for live streaming through multiple outlets, including Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Steam, Wii U, YouTube, Twitch, and the go90 mobile app, along with multiple gaming outlets. Those interested will be hard pressed to not be able to find a way to view the show, according to this list.

Both Microsoft and the Game Awards 2015 host Geoff Keighley have touted the appearance of world premiere gameplay footage for Quantum Break during the show.

The exclusive title from Remedy Games was one of the first to be announced for the Xbox One and has seen a couple of delays, much like its predecessor Alan Wake. It appears to be set for an April 2016 release, and Shawn Ashmore will be on hand to present the new gameplay footage plus one of the live-action scenes as well. Meanwhile, Xbox marketing executive Aaron Greenberg shared his excitement for Quantum Break and the Game Awards on Twitter, where he also mentioned other Xbox One games will appear.

It’s unclear if these are additional Xbox One exclusive titles such as Recore and Sea of Thieves or if these are third-party titles that are also coming to the console. It’s guaranteed that at least one of the other world premieres will be a third-party title, as it has been confirmed that Ubisoft’s Far Cry Primal will have its gameplay debut during the awards show.

That still leaves eight possible titles spread across the PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC with some sort of debut planned. The new Legend of Zelda game is an obvious favorite after Nintendo decided it should skip E3 earlier this year. Whether the time needed to create a trailer for the much-anticipated title was taken out of the busy work schedule remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of potential PS4 exclusives that could make their debut at the Game Awards since 2016 appears set to make up for a lack of AAA exclusives in 2015. No Man’s Sky stunned at last year’s show, but how much more of it can be shown? There is still Uncharted 3, The Last Guardian, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport, The Witness, Street Fighter V, and many others that are possibilities.

In addition to debuting new videos for games, the Game Awards plans to give an “Industry Icon” award to Westwood Studios co-founders Brett Sperry and Louis Castle. Those unfamiliar with the developer will need to go back a decade or more to discover real-time strategy classics such as Command & Conquer and Dune II that helped shape an entire genre of gaming.
