No one has ever had a bad thing to say about Nancy Bishop Langert. Everyone who knew her said that she was a loving church-going woman who had a funny personality that they found endearing. Her gorgeous smile alone was enough to light up any room. In fact, her smile was one of things that Richard Langert found so attractive about her. At the wedding, Nancy was a beautiful bride, and the idea of being a wife made her feel happy. And when she found out that she was going to become a mother, she was overjoyed. Sadly, Nancy had no idea that she would never have her baby, and she would never enjoy the life that she had planned for them as a couple.

According to CBS 48 Hours and the Chicago Tribune, when Nancy Bishop and Richard Langert didn’t show up for church that Sunday morning in 1990, her family immediately wanted to find out where they were. Her father lived just a stone’s throw from his daughter’s town home, so he stopped by to see what was going on. Nothing could have prepared him for what he was about to see. Just as he stepped inside the home, he saw broken glass, and then he saw his daughter’s body at the base of the stairs. Her husband, Richard Langert, was nearby. As he waited for help to arrive, he wondered what the hell happened in that home that could have left his daughter and his son-in-law dead.

The police were baffled, too. Law enforcement officials will reveal to CBS 48 Hours that they knew someone had forced their way in by using a glass cutter at the back patio door. The killer had also accidentally fired a bullet in the home. When officers arrived, they found Nancy Bishop Langert, who was two months pregnant, in a pool of blood, and her husband, who had been restrained with handcuffs, had been shot execution-style in the back of the head. Before Nancy died, she drew two symbols next to her husband’s body, which meant “I love you.”

Detectives did everything they could to find the killer. But it would be six months before they got a break in the case. According to court records, a teenager in the area came into the police station to tell investigators that the killer was his classmate, David Biro. Not only was the killer a local teen, but another chilling detail also indicated that David Biro set out to kill someone that day to fulfill his desire to be a hit man, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.

Police were able to connect the bullet, the glass cutter, and other evidence to David Biro. He was eventually arrested and sentenced to life in prison. Today, he is in contact with Nancy’s sister, Jeanne Bishop, who says she has forgiven him and believes in second chances. Author Jeanne Bishop writes to David and even visits him in prison. She has written a book about how she became able to forgive and reconcile with Biro.

While many would agree that Jeanne’s actions are admirable, some say they believe that she just wants attention. Others say the forgiveness is real, and that she was able to do it based on her love for Jesus. And though many understand this lesson in forgiveness, they in no way believe that David Biro should be released from prison.
