Lamar Odom Will Never Be The Same After Coma, Can’t Care For Himself

Though Lamar Odom is out of the woods in terms of his health, he will never be the same. His hopes of making it back to professional basketball is unrealistic at best. Odom is still in need of hospitalization and major neurological therapy in order to just function in daily life.

According to the Inquisitr, the extensive damage to Odom’s organs alone will set him back. Odom spent a month on dialysis for impaired kidney function, and has had surgery for lung issues after coming off a ventilator. The combination of drug use combined with alcohol and a several day trip to the brothel taxed Odom’s system so much it shut down, and doctors still can’t say how long he went without oxygen. Reports have said that Odom is frustrated with his lack of communication skills, and his inability to move around.

People Magazine is reporting that Lamar Odom is very frustrated with his progress, which has been slow, but is still miraculous considering the event.

“Lamar has made some progress, but his cognitive impairment is making life very challenging,” says an insider, who notes that Odom, 36, is “not able to walk by himself and struggles to communicate verbally, issues attributable to oxygen deprivation and the strokes he suffered following his overdose.”

There is no report whether Odom will ever be able to live alone, and certainly not any time in the near future.

“Lamar won’t likely leave the hospital for a long time,” says the source. “And when he does, he will need full time care. He can’t take care of himself.”

Right now, Odom needs to work on relearning the basic daily things, and figure out what he wants to do professionally going forward, because in his condition, and at 36, the NBA is out of the question.

“Lamar has serious longterm and lasting issues. His life will never be the same as it once was.”

According to New York Magazine, the oxygen deprivation is the big thing that is making Odom’s recovery harder. He will need continued speech and physical therapy.

You.com reports that the full details of what happened at the brothel have not been revealed, but more information might be released if Odom faces criminal charges for the cocaine use and possession.

“The 36-year-old sportsman was rushed to hospital in October after being found unresponsive at a Las Vegas brothel, having apparently suffered a drug overdose. He was in a coma for several days and although he has been awake for weeks, the star remains in a medical centre in Los Angeles.”

Whether Odom will stay at Cedars-Siani, or be transferred to a rehab facility, has yet to be revealed.

“Exactly what happened to the basketball player hasn’t been divulged at the moment, but it’s been reported he suffered a series of strokes which have left him unable to walk on his own and struggling to speak. Although he can use some words, he is thought to be confused much of the time.”

Khloe Kardashian revealed on the Ellen show that Odom still doesn’t know why he is in the hospital, and she hasn’t told him.

“We tell him that he had a brain injury, but we can’t tell him how that brain injury was caused, because that will set him back,” she said. “He never asks why he’s here … He’s really confused a lot – sometimes he knows who the President is and his birthday, and sometimes he thinks he’s 26, and I say, ‘I bet you wish you were 26, so do I!’ ”

Kardashian is still in charge of Lamar Odom’s medical decisions, but is proceeding with her divorce, as she hasn’t gotten over Odom cheating on her in the past.
