WWE News: Evolution Did Not Party

The latest WWE news is a bit interesting, as Ric Flair has revealed that the Evolution stable did not party like they claimed they did, according to a report from Wrestling Inc.

Back during the 1980s, the Four Horsemen were formed when Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson, and Tully Blanchard were thrown together in an interview due to time constraints. They eventually morphed into a collective group of guys that won championships during the day and partied hard with women and booze late into the night.

The Four Horsemen gimmick worked because the performers seemed very natural with their characters. The reason why they were able to be that natural is because Flair, Blanchard, and the Andersons actually lived that lifestyle outside of the ring. They took great pride in stealing the show before going out to various bars, restaurants and nightclubs afterwards.

Flair and the Horsemen spent a lot of money to live that lifestyle. Limo service and private jets were not cheap. Flair once said that the Horsemen hopped on a plane after working a live event in San Francisco and headed off to party in Las Vegas for the night. They then flew back to northern California and sold out more shows. Promoters helped fund some of the partying, but the lion’s share was paid by Flair himself.

Triple H was an impressionable teenager when the Four Horsemen were riding high and dominating WCW. He has long admitted that he is one of the biggest Flair fans on the planet. HHH even patterned his own persona and style after the Nature Boy. That is why it meant so much to him to one day work side by side with Flair and actually become really close friends.

Once Triple H made his rise in WWE and received enough backstage clout to be given his own stable, he knew that he wanted to do something similar to what the Four Horsemen were doing. That was how Evolution was formed. Flair was in the company, so HHH had to have him on board. The former world heavyweight champion then wisely handpicked Randy Orton and Batista to fill the remaining two spots.

Just like the Four Horsemen, Evolution was a stable of guys that won championships and partied hard. There was even a point where every single stable member wore a championship belt around their waist, much like Flair, Ole, Arn, and Blanchard used to do. Vignettes were filmed of Flair, HHH, Orton, and Batista riding around in limos, jets, and helicopters, with a stable of women by their side.

We now know that it was simply an act.

During his latest podcast interview show, Flair revealed that he did not have a single crazy story about his time with Evolution. The group did not party like the Four Horsemen, because the industry had changed so much in the years since. A corporation like WWE is much different than what the NWA was. The reigns were now a bit tighter on the wrestlers.

Flair revealed that Triple H was very disciplined. He was obsessed with taking care of his body. Plus, he was involved in a very serious real-life relationship with Stephanie McMahon. It would not be wise to do things behind the back of the woman that will some day take over the company that you work for. The Nature Boy even joked that he could not convince HHH to drink a glass of wine even if he had $1 million.

For the record, Evolution members were far from being saints. Flair said that he went out a couple of times with Batista and Orton for a couple of beers and shots. The closest thing to a crazy story was that Flair was able to convince Batista to take off his shirt in the middle of the bar, which is a far cry from the stories that we have all heard about Flair.
