Snoop Dogg Delivers 1,500 Thanksgiving Turkeys To Families In Need In Inglewood

Rapper Snoop Dogg got into the giving spirit just in time for Thanksgiving. On Thursday, Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, attended the second annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway in Inglewood, California. Mayor James Butts told KNBC-TV Snoop Dogg joined him for the turkey giveaway, and helped pass out over 1,5000 turkeys to families in need.

The turkey giveaway was held at The Forum, an indoor music venue. This marks the second year Snoop Dogg has participated in the giveaway.

Snoop Dogg did arrive to the turkey giveaway late, but explained his tardiness was for a good reason because he ran into Santa Claus, according to Vibe. The rapper joked with the crowd that Santa wanted to chat, keeping him from arriving on time.

“I was late today because I was talking to Santa Claus about a Christmas special and I said, ‘Santa I gotta get to Inglewood to pass out these turkeys.’ He was like, ‘Well hold on.’ I said, ‘Well hold on Santa I’ve got people waiting on me’ so I’m happy I’m here, Inglewood you know I love y’all.”

Snoop Dogg went on to tell the crowd he’s going to be participating in the turkey giveaway every year from now on.

“This is my second home. Inglewood has been good to me from day one and that’s why I love Inglewood and I just want to let y’all know I’m gonna be doing this every year. I’m sorry I’m late but I (am) giving you some big fat turkeys so y’all can get your eat on for Thanksgiving (sic).”

The Spreadit reports Inglewood resident, Xiomara Payan, was excited to meet Snoop Dogg and get his photo taken with the famous rapper.

Payan said, “This is a very big help for not only myself, but for about a thousand people.”

Not only did Snoop help pass out the turkeys, but he also posed for photos with the hundreds of Inglewood residents who were at the event.

“Snoop Dogg took pictures with over 800 people at the event,” Butts said. “We had a tented area for seniors to sit in, and the first thing he did was go over to take pictures with everyone there.”

After taking photos in the tented area, Snoop Dogg headed to the line of over 800 people, taking pictures with each of them, also giving out hugs.

Last year Mayor Butts met Snoop Dogg at his headquarters 1500 or Nothin’, which is based in Inglewood, and said Snoop expressed that he wanted to “get involved in giving back to the community.” The mayor made the suggestion that the musician could help give out turkeys to which he happily agreed.

Last year 800 turkeys were given out at the event, and even more were given out this year. Uproxx reports Snoop Dogg’s presence boosted the number of turkeys given away this year, nearly doubling the number. When he wasn’t posing for photos and chatting with fans, he helped pass out the birds along with the mayor and city officials.

The Spreadit reports every year Inglewood posts fliers announcing the turkey giveaway ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Baked hams and toys are also given out by the city for Christmas to those families in need.

Now hundreds of families in Inglewood might have a brighter Thanksgiving thanks to the West Coast rapper and his desire to give back to the community.
