‘General Hospital’s’ Jason Thompson Apparently Done Filming, Last Scenes Will Be In December

It was a sad moment when Jason Thompson officially announced that he was indeed leaving his longtime role as Dr. Patrick Drake on General Hospital. He has been a big part of the ABC daytime drama for a decade, and fans are quite sad about him leaving. There was speculation that he may be staying a few months longer, however, it looks like he may actually be done filming already.

Apparently, the person to have spilled the news that Thompson is done filming is his GH co-star Finola Hughes. She plays the role of Patrick Drake’s ex-mother-in-law on the soap, and they regularly share plenty of scenes together. According to Soap Opera Spy, the actress was at a fan event last weekend and spilled that Jason is gone now and that his final scenes will be before Christmas.

Jason Thompson was previously rumored to have extended his contract on General Hospital for an additional four months, but it looks like that is not true at all. Hughes has apparently put that rumor to rest, as she mentioned that he would not be seen on screen in January — or anytime soon for that matter. As sad as this is for Jason’s fans, it has to be even harder for his co-stars to see him go. Finola told the fans at the event that she was sad that he was not going to be a part of the show any longer, but she also expressed that she understood why he is doing what he has to do.

Serious talk is going around now that Jason Thompson will be heading to The Young and the Restless to take over the role of Billy Abbott. However, that is not confirmed just yet. If this is true, it will take some getting used to seeing him in any other role besides Patrick Drake. However, as a very talented actor, he may just surprise his fans and gain new ones in the process.

Thompson has called Port Charles his home for so long that it is going to be tough to see him leave. He has been a fan favorite for years, and many are heartbroken that he will no longer be a part of General Hospital. In fact, Monday’s episode proved just how magical he is during his scenes. His character is going through yet another emotional roller coaster ride in his life, and no one can drive it home like Jason Thompson can.

He and his on-screen daughter Emma, who is brilliantly played by Brooklyn Rae Silzer, seem to be the best father-daughter team in soap history. At least, that is the consensus on social media. That was evident in their scenes together on Monday.

Emma Drake just had a scare, as she was almost snatched up by a woman who claimed to have lost her dog. Of course, viewers knew that it was all part of the plan to keep her mom, Robin Scorpio, in line since she is being held captive somewhere. Her daddy came running to the park to comfort her, and the tears started flowing instantly between the two actors. You can bet that fans were also crying along with them, especially knowing that this is all going to end very soon.

Jason and Brooklyn are magic in their roles, and it has been that way since the girl was very small. Thompson has also had chemistry with his off and on love, Robin, and fans will get to see them together again before he leaves as Kimberly McCullough is coming back to her role temporarily, as reported by ABC. It is not known yet whether Brooklyn will stay on the soap or end up leaving her role as Emma Drake. Fans are hoping that at least one Drake will be sticking around. However, Patrick did promise his daughter yesterday that he was never going to leave her, so that may be an indication that she is also leaving the soap.
