Is ‘The Flash’ Cast Giving Fans A Musical Episode In Season 2? Jesse L. Martin Weighs In

Fans of The Flash may be in for a pleasant surprise involving a musical episode at some point in Season 2. According to Design & Trend, not only are there are a number of cast members on the show who have a musical background, but Jesse L. Martin, who plays Detective Joe West in the series, was part of the Broadway musical Rent. Does this mean fans can expect a musical in Season 2 of The Flash?

Although nothing official has been released, Martin previously told Entertainment Weekly that the Earth-Two version of his character might open the door for the show to do something musical in nature.

“Earth-Two Joe might have a little musical element to him,” he revealed.

At the same time, Martin was also asked about a possible musical episode in an interview with Comic Book. Although he admitted that it all started off as a joke, the idea of incorporating music into an episode has grown into a possibility.

“I’d have a blast with it,” he shared. “We joked about it for a long time. We’d make up jokes on set about what it could possibly be if The Flash did a musical episode and we all just thought it was funny and a lark. But the more it gets talked about, I think the more seriously [series executive producers] Greg [Berlanti] and Andrew [Kreisberg] take it.”

Just how serious are producers in tackling a musical episode? Apparently, Martin believes that they’ve annoyed producers to the point where it might actually happen.

“And they’ve been prodded in many ways by many different people: Why don’t you guys do something? You’ve got all these actors who can do it so you guys should probably think about doing it. So — you never know, it might happen,” he stated.

Aside from Martin, there are a few other cast members who would certainly be up for a musical. In fact, Grant Gustin (Barry Allen) had a part on Glee and also in the Broadway play West Side Story. Additionally, Carlos Valdes (Cisco) has been in a number of musicals, including The Wedding Singer, Once, and Jersey Boys.

In regards to the possibility of doing a musical on The Flash, Gustin stated that he believes the cast would do really well with it, especially given their backgrounds in music.

“I don’t know how they’d do it, but they certainly have the resources if they want to do it. I mean, you’ve got all of these super-talented people on the set,” Gustin said. “So if they wanted to do it, we could really knock out a great musical episode.”

At this point, it seems as though the only question remaining is when fans can expect the musical episode to occur. While nothing official has been released, such an episode would likely happen whenever the characters on The Flash journey to meet their Earth-Two counterparts.

Although it is not known when the characters will make their way to Earth-Two, the Franchise Herald is reporting that Gustin revealed it will happen during Season 2.

“It sounds like we’re going to be making an Earth-Two trip in the future at some point this season,” the actor shared. “I don’t know which characters are going to be going. I’m pretty sure Barry will be one of them. I don’t know if we’re going to see his doppelganger when we go over there. I’d imagine we would.”

While we all wait to find out when and if a musical episode is in the cards, the second season of The Flash continues Tuesday nights on The CW.
