Miesha Tate Takes A Shot At Ronda Rousey After Shocking UFC Loss

Miesha Tate seems pretty happy that her career rival, Ronda Rousey, lost Saturday night’s match against Holly Holm and surrendered her unbeaten title.

Tate told MMA News Source that she was glad Rousey lost the Bantamweight title because of her attitude, but there’s more to it than that — Tate was originally supposed to fight Rousey in a match that would have been her third chance at beating her, but was replaced by Holm in a controversial UFC decision.

“I am extremely disappointed how all the events unfolded this morning regarding news that I will not be fighting Ronda Rousey. I was told after my last win that I had earned the title shot. I’ve already begun training for Rousey and I was shocked to hear the announcement this morning. I regret this for not only myself, but my team, sponsors and the fans who like me believed my next fight was for the title,” Miesha Tate wrote on Instagram earlier this year.

UFC President Dana White said he didn’t think a third match against Rousey would be good for Tate’s career, adding that he didn’t think she was going anywhere, despite her threats of retirement.

“There’s two sides to the coin … I’m not sure losing another fight to Ronda so soon would be good for Miesha. She’s not going anywhere. I think she’ll be fine,” White said.

Despite the disappointment, Miesha told reporters she was “proud” of Holly Holm.

“I’m f**king stoked; f**k Ronda Rousey. F**k her and her ‘Nobody has the right to beat me.’ Nobody has the right to beat you? Well you just got beat, b**ch. Anyways, I’m proud of Holly. She had a perfect, flawless game plan. She came in with it (Saturday) and now she is the champion,” Miesha Tate said.

The match was highly anticipated, especially after last week’s weigh-in, where Holm pushed Rousey away with a hand to the face and spurred quite a bit of trash-talking on social media. According to the L.A. Times, the fight drew about 50,000 fans, a record for UFC’s live events, many of whom were likely expecting Rousey to take another victory to add to an unbroken string. The upset is all over the Web today, with some speculating that Ronda Rousey let her temper get the best of her.

“For Rousey, it was a bad weekend. She came off as a bad sportswoman insulting and refusing to touch gloves with the even tempered and good natured Holm and then fought a wild, dangerous fight that didn’t show sufficient respect for her opponent’s ability,” wrote Todd Martin.

Although the confusion about Miesha Tate’s next move led her to call out the UFC and threaten retirement, she says she’s still down to fight Rousey but believes she should be the first athlete to challenge Holm after her win.

“I’m looking forward to that fight. I think I’m next in line,” Miesha Tate said.

Holly Holm went into the match with the odds stacked against her — according to Fox Sports, it was 20-1 — but said she had worked harder than she ever had beforehand to ensure a win.

“I have to say that everything that we worked on presented itself in the fight. Every kind of grab that she tried to get and clinch on the cage. I have not spent this much time in the gym before any fight in my life,” Holm said after the fight.

Ronda Rousey was transported to the hospital following the match and was unavailable for comment.

Miesha Tate hosted a viewing party for the fight and took to Twitter to voice her happiness about the outcome, praising Holly Holm after posting a two simple emojis that said a lot.
