Rihanna Cancels Victoria’s Secret Performance For Jourdan Dunn? Fans Fuel Speculation On Twitter

Rihanna may have called off her scheduled performance for this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in order to finish her upcoming album, but it looks like Rihanna’s fans are calling “BS” on the reason behind Rihanna’s cancellation after model Jourdan Dunn threw some major shade at the internationally-recognized lingerie brand on Twitter.

Yesterday, People confirmed Rihanna’s decision to cancel her performance for this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, noting that Rihanna had to cancel her appearance in order to complete work on her highly anticipated eighth studio album, ANTI.

Similarly, a source close to Rihanna revealed to Billboard that Rihanna has canceled “several commitments” that had been lined up to promote ANTI because Rihanna is struggling to pick her next single prior to ANTI’s impending release.

The publication also speculates that a “surprise” December release date for ANTI is “likely” after Rihanna’s sources previously denied a November 6 drop date for the album.

The news comes just days after Rihanna’s father, Ronald Fenty, confessed to the Sun that Rihanna has yet to complete work on ANTI because she is “uncomfortable and unhappy” with the album thus far.

“It’s been three years now since her last album and she wants this to blow everything else away, no competition, because she’s calling it her ‘first album.'”

Rihanna’s father further explains that Rihanna is struggling to determine “which of the 26 songs to use” on the album, suggesting that the album is near completion and that Rihanna is simply having a hard time selecting which songs to feature on ANTI.

While Rihanna’s father didn’t confirm a tentative release date for Rihanna’s album, several outlets have suggested that a December release for Rihanna’s new album is “likely,” while others predict it may be as late as 2016 until Rihanna fans can finally hear the highly anticipated project.

Despite Rihanna’s decision to cancel her appearance at this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in order to finish ANTI, Rihanna’s fans have taken to social media to speculate that there may be another reason Rihanna decided to bow out of this year’s VSFS performance.

Shortly after Rihanna’s Victoria’s Secret cancellation was confirmed, Jourdan Dunn took to Twitter to announce that she would also not be making an appearance for this year’s annual fashion show before calling the lingerie brand “BS.”

“Feeling so much better about not doing BS… sorry I mean VS now that Rihanna isn’t doing it also.”

The Daily Mail reports that while some fans interpreted Jourdan’s tweet to show support for Rihanna’s last-minute cancellation, others believe Dunn was dissing Victoria’s Secret after they allegedly dropped Dunn from the show in order to make room for newcomer Kendall Jenner.

While it’s unclear whether it was Jourdan Dunn’s decision to not participate in this year’s show or Victoria’s Secret simply didn’t invite her back for an appearance, Jourdan Dunn and Rihanna’s fans seem to believe that Dunn was cut from the lineup so that the brand could make way for first-timer Kendall Jenner.

One fan alleges, “Kendall Jenner replaced *actual* model Jourdan Dunn…which is supposedly why Rihanna bailed on the VS show. Good for Rihanna,” while another adds, “I have so much respect for Rihanna for walking away from the VS show.”

The speculation regarding Rihanna’s rumored support for Jourdan Dunn was further fueled by an Instagram post from user afroajay, who argued, “The real tea about Rihanna her sudden cancellation of the VS gig has nothing to do with her album. She’s done many other less high profile shows this past month. She cancelled because VS replaced black supermodel Jourdan Dunn with Kendall Jenner last minute and Jourdan was very upset about it.”

The post goes on to argue that Rihanna and Dunn are friends and that Rihanna declined to perform in order to show support for Jourdan.

Similarly, an alleged exchange between Rihanna and a fan via direct message on Twitter shows Rihanna referring to the Victoria’s Secret show as “stupid” while also backing up claims that she will be working on her album rather than performing.

Rihanna will be replaced by Ellie Goulding alongside Selena Gomez and The Weeknd as this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show performers. The show tapes on November 10 and will air on December 8 on CBS.
