Some ‘GTA V’ Players Are Having Issues Unlocking Items From The New Online Halloween DLC

After rumors leaked online earlier this week about new Halloween content coming to Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games has now officially announced the release of the holiday-themed DLC pack for GTA Online. Along with new vehicles and masks, the latest update for the game gives players the chance to try out a new game mode that was inspired by slasher films.

However, there were initially issues when the new GTA V features first went live on Thursday morning which caused some players to not receive some of the new items that were added as part of the DLC. For the first few hours, gamers weren’t actually unlocking the new Halloween masks or flashlight after purchasing them in GTA Online.

While Rockstar Games has since announced that they have fixed the bug, the developer has stated that they are aware of lingering issues where players who bought the new Halloween gear still don’t have access to the items even after the bug was supposedly fixed.

“We are currently investigating cases for a small group of players who might have purchased these items and did not receive them during that time.”

For the majority of players, however, the new GTA Online Halloween content is now working as intended. The new DLC works like a prolonged multi-week event that will give gamers the chance to pick up some new spooky items. Following the recent speculation for the content, Rockstar Games didn’t formally announce Grand Theft Auto V‘s new Halloween features until after it was already available for download.

“From now through November 16th in GTA Online, special Halloween treats will be available to the residents of Los Santos and Blaine County on PS4, Xbox One and PC. And no tricks here – once acquired these special items will remain in your inventory, even after November 16th.”

As could be expected, the Halloween add-on adds plenty of new customization options that should help GTA Online users properly celebrate the frightful holiday. In addition to several new horror masks, the update also introduced 30 more face paint options to allow fans to get creative while designing their own scary costumes within GTA V.

This week’s new GTA Online DLC also adds to new vehicles to the game. Like all content from the update, these new cars were specifically designed with Halloween in mind. As such, GTA V fans can now own their own hearse with a custom skull-covered paint job as well as the Franken Strange hotrod. The add-on also adds several more themed dashboard bobbleheads for use with the game’s recent lowriders update. All of the new vehicles can only be purchased during the Halloween event.

Also available only during a limited timeframe, the DLC also added a new competitive mode to GTA Online just in time for Halloween. The Slasher Adversary Mode give only one player a weapon while the remaining participants are only given a flashlight to help them see in the darkly lit mode as they try to survive. However, anyone who is still alive after three minutes will then be given their own shotgun.

“Enjoy thrills and suspense with the lights out in this tense new Adversary Mode for up to 8 players. Run, hide, and fight to survive in the darkness as the player designated as the Slasher stalks their prey with a Shotgun.”

This is the first time that Rockstar Games celebrated Halloween in GTA Online with anything more than a brief weekend event. As with all new Grand Theft Auto V features, the new “Halloween Surprise” DLC is only available on current-gen platforms since it’s no longer possible to add additional content to the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3.
