Ed Sheeran Family Fears Over Drink And Drug Abuse Problems

Over the past few years, Ed Sheeran has shot from obscurity to being one of the biggest-selling pop stars on the planet. Earlier this year, Sheeran became the first solo artist to sell out London’s massive Wembley stadium three nights in a row. As reported by the Inquisitr, Sheeran recently became the first artist to have a song streamed over 500 million times on Spotify. This year has also seen Sheeran make his acting debut and have a No. 1 hit with Jamie Lawson on his new record label. It seems that everything Sheeran touches turns to gold.

Sheeran is renowned as one of the music industries nicest guys. Ed has performed numerous acts of kindness towards both friends and strangers, and Sheeran’s generosity has become something of a legend. Of course, as Sheeran is discovering, being one of the biggest stars in the world comes at a price. That price is all too often a lack of privacy and illness caused by the relentless pressure of being a high-profile celebrity.

Earlier this year, 24-year-old Sheeran split from his longtime girlfriend Athina Andrelos. At the time of the split, the Daily Mail reported that Sheeran’s drinking and behavior at this years Brit Awards after-party was the reason for the breakup. The Mirror reports that after the party, Sheeran had to be propped up by friends because he was so drunk. Over the course of this year, there have been numerous stories and photographs showing Sheeran, seemingly the worse for wear, leaving clubs and partying hard.

Earlier this week, the Guardian reported that Sheeran was increasingly drunk and slurring his words as the night wore on at the EMA awards.

Now it seems that Sheeran’s family are increasingly concerned about the singer’s wild ways. According to the Mirror, Ed’s cousin Jethro Sheeran is very worried about Ed’s constant partying. Speaking about Sheeran’s behavior at the Brit awards, Jethro talked about Ed’s use of both drink and drugs.

“I was worried about him, I think he had had too much to drink. He was a bit embarrassed about it but what are you going to do?”

“Ed is very open about drugs. He has said how he fell in love with a bean bag because he was on MDMA. That is what Blood Stream is about, chemicals in his bloodstream.”

According to the Hamilton Spectator, Jethro claims that the amount of female attention Sheeran is receiving since he split with Andrelos is confusing for Ed and is adding to the pressure he is under.

“It was tough for him when he split up with [Athina], he was quite into her, he took her to Ireland and met my grandma. Now he is getting used to the fact that everyone wants to get with Ed Sheeran.

“He is a bit confused because if he was a taxi driver I don’t think that would happen. I think they fall in love with his voice.”

According to Music News, Sheeran is heading off for an extended break in West Africa. Apparently Jethro claims that Sheeran just wants to “sit at home and watch movies” during his break, which will begin on New Year’s Day. Sheeran’s schedule has been relentless since he shot to stardom in 2011 with his album + [plus], so Jethro claims that Sheeran is looking forward to dropping off the grid for a while.

It seems that Sheeran likes the music coming out of Ghana and is looking forward to being able to relax “where there is going to be no pressure. He just doesn’t want to be recognised.”

Sheeran’s fans will be concerned that his partying may be affecting Ed’s health and will be worried that Sheeran could become the latest in a very long line of musicians who could not cope with fame and ended up having addiction problems as a result.
