WWE News: Big Update On The Huge Contract WWE Offered Alberto Del Rio To Come Back

Ever since it was rumored WWE had interest in a former Superstar by the name of Alberto Del Rio, the internet was buzzing. Del Rio left on such bad terms with WWE over a racial issue that cost him his job for simply standing up for himself. WWE had to be a corporation about things, which sucked for them. Of course, Del Rio needed a break, and was going to leave a few months later anyway. Del Rio also had an issue with WWE in court to get his no-compete clause removed, which caused even more friction between both sides.

Interestingly, it was said that Alberto Del Rio was still interested in a comeback, despite his impressive independent career, where he worked all over the place from Lucha Underground to AAA and even House of Hardcore. WWE was said to have been impressed at how he was able to stay just as popular and actually gain popularity since leaving WWE, which only made them want him back.

We knew that WWE needed a big Hispanic star, and since Del Rio was the last guy they tried to build for that — and since he was well liked by that crowd — it made sense to get him back. Many thought WWE had no ability to do so, but money talks at the end of the day.

Del Rio US Title

According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE opened up their wallet to give Alberto Del Rio a $1,450,000 downside guarantee per year. Understand that: guaranteed! This does not include merchandise or any bonuses. On top of this, he is getting a reduced schedule. It won’t be anything like Brock Lesnar’s deal, but he will not do as many live events and have a few TVs off here and there.

WWE was said to have offered him this type of deal due to being desperate for a Hispanic star, so to WWE, he was well worth the investment. We can also completely understand why he took the deal to come back. At 38-years-old, this type of deal is almost unheard of, so it would be dumb to turn down.

Del Rio is still AAA Mega Champion, and pushed for WWE to allow him to complete his dates with AAA, where he would end up dropping the title. He was set for a hair vs hair match with Jeff Jarrett for the championship, but that match will be changed.

Apparently, Del Rio wanted to keep his WWE return a secret while also maintaining a good relationship with AAA. Reportedly, he finalized a deal with WWE this past weekend and didn’t tell AAA so that nothing would get out about him returning then. He then was said to have informed AAA about his return to WWE on October 24, or the morning of the 25, which was the day of WWE Hell in a Cell.

He gave the impression then that he would finish up his dates with AAA when they spoke, but it was not certain. AAA is said to be disappointed, but they have no hard feelings with him.

AAA expects for Del Rio to be at their November 2 show in Nuevo Laredo instead of WWE RAW in Denver, Colorado. It is said that if Alberto Del Rio does end up working the AAA date, it will be because he insisted on it and/or it was designed when he signed his deal with WWE to begin with. Del Rio is said to be scheduled for more AAA events while WWE goes to Europe next month, as well. However, it is uncertain if WWE will have him go with them. If he does not, it would appear that he will end up finishing all of his AAA matches up just to avoid any issues with them in the future.

Clearly, WWE is working with Alberto Del Rio in every way, and we’ll probably end up seeing him work in bigger roles just because they want to get their money out of him, which is quite a lot. John Cena is set to return to WWE by the TLC PPV, where he will face Del Rio for the WWE United States Championship. Cena may very well win it back, but there are some who believe he won’t, and Del Rio will keep the title a good bit into 2016.
