Daniel Craig Clarifies His Controversial Bond Comments

Daniel Craig is not backtracking his recent comments he made about the Bond franchise he’s been involved with since 2006. Craig initially said he was going to “move on” from Bond, and now he wants to clarify his comments.

The Bond actor, who will star in his fourth Bond film Spectre, sat down for an interview with Time Out. When asked if he wanted to do another Bond movie after Spectre, Craig seemed vehemently against the idea, telling the outlet rather bluntly that he’s ready to move on.

“Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

Not only did his comments turn heads of Bond enthusiasts, but he also got destroyed by some of his peers, notably Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo, who knows a thing or two about taking a role and creating longevity out of it, as she’s played the role of Meredith Grey for 11 years now. At the time Pompeo tweeted her disgust over Craig’s comments.

Soon after her initial tweet many fans pointed out that Daniel Craig’s comment about the Bond franchise might have been taken out of context.

Craig isn’t apologizing for his comments about Bond, but he did tell the BBC that he can’t control how people take his blunt comments.

“I’m quite straightforward and I say things when I feel it and then I change my mind. I’m just like everybody else. People latch onto things. There’s not a lot I can do about that.”

Before Daniel Craig clarified his comment, his co-star, actress Naomie Harris, defended the actor’s comments.

“It was not as he intended it,” she said, offering that he was “just being sarcastic.” Then the actress went on to explain just how easy it is to take comments out of context. “It’s easy to take something that someone says in passing and blow it completely out of proportion.” Interesting enough, Craig never said that he didn’t mean what he said.

Although it’s not yet known if Craig will sign on for another James Bond film, if going by his comments, this will probably be his last Bond film. It means someone else will have to take over the franchise, which was inevitable from the start of Craig’s reign.

People are already talking about the actors that will replace Craig in the role of James Bond. As it turns out the fan favorite to step into the role is Tom Hardy. In true fashion, when Daniel Craig asked about the fan favorites which include Hardy, Idris Elba, and Emily Blunt, Craig replied that he didn’t care about it one way or another. To put it blunty, Craig replied, “Look, I don’t give a f–k. Good luck to them!”

He continued, “All I care about is that if I stop doing these things, we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better. Make it better, that’s all.”

If that’s not enough, Daniel Craig continued to speak his thoughts on James Bond’s character, calling him a mysogynist.
