Donald Trump Ditches Jimmy Kimmel, And Jimmy Rips Trump For It

Donald Trump bailed on Jimmy Kimmel last night, and the late-night host isn’t about to let him forget it.

E! Online reports that Trump was supposed to be a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, but he pulled out of the appearance because of a conflicting “political engagement.”

But it looks like Jimmy felt slighted by Trump’s last minute no-show, and he proceeded to trump The Donald with jokes during his opening monologue

“His people called late last night and canceled on us. They were cryptic as to why he canceled,” Jimmy quipped. “They said he has a major political commitment. But he did want me to relay the message to you that if he had been here, he would have been great.”

Jimmy then joked about Trump’s tendency to be verbally aggressive with his rivals and his love of the spotlight.

“Usually, it means he had to go on CNN and call someone an idiot or something,” Jimmy said. “Why did he cancel?” he asked. “We told him there were cameras here, right?”

Kimmel may have been feeling a tad bit jealous. Donald Trump has appeared on most of Jimmy’s late night rivals’ programs. He’s already been on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. According to Variety, Trump is also going to host Saturday Night Live in November. He hasn’t been on The Daily Show yet, although new host, Trevor Noah, has said that he would love to have Donald Trump on the show.

Jimmy had one solution that would make up for the absence of Donald Trump on the show.

“Don’t worry,” Kimmel told the audience. “Tonight, we’re going to give everyone in the audience a basketball dipped in cologne, so you can fully experience what it would have been like had Donald Trump been here.”

But maybe there was a silver lining to the fact that Donald Trump ditched Jimmy Kimmel Live, and it has everything to do with Jimmy’s sidekick.

“The good part about Donald Trump not being here is we don’t have to build a wall around Guillermo tonight,” Kimmel said in reference to Donald Trump and his immigration comments.

Donald Trump may have been a no-show at Jimmy Kimmel last night, but it looks like he may be able to make up for it in the future.

“Unfortunately Mr. Trump now has a political obligation that will prevent him from joining as planned,” his spokesperson told Variety on Tuesday, “but we have rescheduled to join in-studio in L.A. over the next few weeks.

Trump was not scheduled to be interviewed by Jimmy that night, Variety reports, but he was supposed to be a part of a sketch that would have aired after the first guest’s interview. But obviously, that couldn’t happen given the Trump no-show.

Maybe Jimmy could have Donald Trump read mean tweets. Jimmy Kimmel has a popular running gag where he films celebrities reading mean tweets about themselves. Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, Halle Berry, Stephen Curry, and a long list of others have all done the Jimmy Kimmel mean tweets segments. Even President Barack Obama read mean tweets about himself.

Even though Donald Trump bailed on Jimmy Kimmel Live, a couple of other high-powered guests showed up, including Jay-Z.

Jay was there to talk about his streaming service, Tidal, and he even gave out free tickets to the entire audience for the TIDAL 1020 concert at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. Jimmy Kimmel and Jay-Z walked the audience to the Tidal concert since they were taping the show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
