Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards may called an end to their two-year engagement earlier this year, but is Zayn hoping to reconcile with Perrie after seeing the Little Mix songstress move on from their former relationship?

Zayn and Perrie ended their longtime relationship in August after sources close to Malik and Edwards confirmed to several media outlets that Zayn had decided to breakup with Perrie via text message just months after announcing his departure from One Direction.

While rumors initially suggested that Perrie Edwards was the inspiration for Zayn’s decision to leave One Direction, Malik seemingly slammed the rumors when he ended his engagement to Perrie in an abrupt text message to the Little Mix singer.

Sources close to Perrie Edwards revealed to People that Perrie was “devastated” by Zayn’s sudden decision to end their engagement, noting that Perrie has “been putting on a brave face as Little Mix have had promotion to do” amid her split from Zayn.

The news of Zayn and Perrie’s breakup shocked One Direction fans who believed that Malik chose to depart from One Direction in order to spend time with Edwards and continue to plan their upcoming wedding.

In fact, Malik’s former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, previously told reporters that Zayn decided to leave 1D in order to “spend some time with his family and missus,” only for Zayn to later announce his decision to embark on a solo career amid One Direction’s world tour.

While Perrie Edwards has risen above the adversity and has even ignited romance rumors with other men since being dumped by Zayn, new rumors are suggesting that Malik is attempting to reestablish contact with Edwards because he “misses” her.

According to the Mirror UK, sources close to Zayn and Perrie reveal that Malik has begun contacting Edwards through text message to tell his ex-fiancée that he “misses and still loves her,” although it’s not clear whether or not Malik intends to reunite with the British songstress.

The source explains that despite Zayn’s eyebrow-raising decision to abruptly end their engagement just months ago, Perrie is “still in love with Zayn” and is having a difficult time seeing the former One Direction star move on with other women.

While it’s unclear whether or not Perrie would be willing to reconcile with Zayn, sources close to Edwards admit that they are fearful Perrie will ultimately reunite with Zayn if the duo continues to speak to one another frequently.

News of Zayn Malik’s attempt to reach out to ex Perrie Edwards comes just days after TOWIE star Joey Essex revealed that he had a brief fling with Edwards just weeks after Zayn ended his engagement to Perrie.

Essex admits to the Mirror that he and Perrie have “locked lips,” and notes that Perrie is “a really nice girl,” despite Perrie Edwards’ rep having denied the brief romance rumors.

Meanwhile, Zayn Malik has been making headlines for his rumored romance to L.A.-based publicist, Carlyn Bryan.

Malik sent fans into a frenzy last week after he shared a photo of himself cozied up to Bryan, although neither Bryan nor Zayn have spoken out regarding the nature of their alleged romance.

Although reports began suggesting that Bryan may be Malik’s first girlfriend since ending his engagement to Perrie just weeks prior, Zayn fueled breakup rumors with Bryan after he deleted their controversial Instagram photo from his account.

Currently, Perrie Edwards remains occupied with Little Mix’s promotional tour of their third album, Get Weird, while Zayn continues to work on his solo career music.
