Demi Lovato has found her confidence, and she's proudly displaying her "come what may" attitude in several different ways.
Add to that growing list an impromptu nude photo shoot with Vanity Fair.
The magazine posted the photos and story by photographer Patrick Ecclesine Friday on Vanity Fair's website. A video of Demi Lovato discussing her reasons for photo-shoot accompanied the article.
"When I think of confident, I think of many things, but one thing in particular is feeling comfortable in your own skin. I thought there was something incredible about the idea of no makeup whatsoever, no clothes and no retouching. I would have never thought I would have ever gotten to a place in my life where I would have been comfortable doing that."The photos were proof that Demi has reached a confident place in her life just before the release of her new album, Confidence, later this month.
"It's empowering, and it shows other women that you can get to a place where you can overcome the obstacles of body image issues, and you can feel comfortable and confident in your skin."Lovato continued to open up about her past problems. Demi described what she learned from these obstacles and how it shaped her into the person she is today.
"In the past I suffered from eating disorders, and I basically went from hating every single inch of my body to working on myself, and trying to figure out ways to love myself, love the skin that I'm in. I learned, after working very hard on my spirituality and my soul and my body. I learned you can get to a place that you can love the skin you're in, and I'm excited to share that with the world."For his part, Ecclesine was in the right place and the right time for Lovato. The day before the shoot, Demi had just lost her great-grandfather, and Ecclesine stopped by to check on the "Cool For The Summer" singer.
Spontaneously, Lovato asked the famed photographer to shoot her in an emotional, raw state. Demi had some stipulations, however.
"If there's one thing I've learned in the past day, it's that life is too short. I'm about to launch an album that finally represents who I truly am. How do I embrace this new chapter in my life? How do I really walk the walk? What does it mean to be confident? It means letting go, being authentic, saying I don't give a f*** and this is who I am. I want to show the side of me that's real, that's liberated, that's free. What if we do a photo shoot where it's totally raw? Super-sexy, but no makeup, no fancy lighting, no retouching, and no clothing. Let's do it here, let's do it now."Lovato and the photographer began the shoot shortly after midnight, and it lasted for better than three hours. Demi posed in multiple rooms throughout the hotel.
This isn't the first nude shoot for Demi. Lovato had recently posed topless for Complex, and an image of Demi with an inflatable banana appears on the publication's upcoming cover, the Daily Mail reported.Lovato, who is reported dating Wilmer Valderrama, is also opening up about her past through her songs. When asked if "Cool For The Summer" was about a past lesbian relationship on a recent talk show, Demi neither confirmed nor denied the accusation.
Demi isn't the only celebrity bearing it all recently. Selena Gomez also posed topless for her album cover, the Inquisitr previously reported.
