Jessa Duggar Seewald Opens Up About Pregnancy Plans: Home Birth, Parenting, And More

The Duggar family is expecting a new bundle of joy on November 1, 2015, with the birth of daughter Jessa Seewald’s first child. The newlyweds, Ben and Jessa Seewald, opened up by answering questions from their fans about pregnancy, parenting, and the future of the Seewald family. Here are a few of the questions that the Duggar daughter has answered over the past few weeks.

The Duggar Family Blog asked its readers to submit questions that would be given to Jessa Seewald for answering. The fans submitted a number of questions to the expectant mom, ranging from plans for a home birth to pregnancy cravings.

When asked about food cravings she has experienced during pregnancy, Jessa noted that she hasn’t really craved anything unusual like pickles and ice cream. However, she says she has taken advantage of the situation to be more lenient on her typically healthy diet. For example, if she wants pasta or ice cream, she says she will just chalk it up to a “craving” and indulge from time-to-time.

As the Seewalds prepare for the arrival of their first child, some fans wanted to know exactly how the young couple plans to parent. One reader asked Jessa to explain what she viewed as the “most important” role of a parent. Jessa responded to the question by pointing out that she would use her own parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, as an example. She claims there are three roles that she feels are vital to parenting, which include having a love for God, a love for one another, and pursuit of your child’s hearts.

“I would have to say that there are three things that certainly stand out to me: their love for God, their love for each other, and their love for us kids.”

Jessa, as expected, first points out that loving God is vital to be a good parent. However, she also says that a love for one another as husband and wife is also important. She points out that her parents would physically show their love for one another and that she never doubted their strong love for one another.

Jessa also says that her parents actively pursued her heart, and it isn’t something that “just happens” in a family. Rather, a parent must actively pursue their child’s heart for it to happen.

“The third thing that stands out to me is how they pursued our hearts. I know that this is not just something that “happens.” They were very purposeful about this! They would always make time to talk to us one-on-one, and ask us questions about how we were doing and what was going on in our lives. Growing up, I truly felt like they knew me better than anyone else!”

Another question that was weighing on Duggar fans’ minds was whether or not Jessa would attempt a home birth after her sister Jill Dillard’s birth struggles. Jessa responded that despite Jill’s unexpected hospital transfer during her attempted home birth, she still plans to birth at home. Jessa points out that she knows a lot of people who had successful and fulfilling home births and that she is hoping for the same. However, she did say that she has a plan B in place should a hospital transfer be needed.

“Our plan is to have a home birth. We have lots of relatives and friends who have had wonderful experiences with giving birth at home, and we are excited and hopeful that our experience will be the same.”
