WWE Rumors: Rey Mysterio’s Future Now Seems Certain – Is He Returning To WWE?
Rey Mysterio has been kind of a wrestling nomad since parting ways with WWE, and no-one knew exactly what the future held for him. Since leaving WWE, he has feuded with Mysteziz in AAA and was also in the ring when Perro Aguayo Jr. tragically passed away. Now, it looks like his future is known, but will he be heading back to WWE or to AAA or to Lucha Underground?
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the backstage news going around is that Rey Mysterio is indeed expected to sign with Lucha Underground sometime in the near future. He is going to be used as the top star in the company during the season season.
While it isn’t 100 percent official that Mysterio is going to sign with Lucha Underground, it certianly does seem likely. The company may not even announce when/if they do sign him as they may want to use him as a huge surprise for the fans.
After much waiting, it was just revealed this past week that Lucha Underground will indeed be returning to El Rey Network for a second season in early 2016. As reported by WrestleZone, the show is going to tape again at The Temple in Los Angeles.
Tapings are expected to begin in December some time with pre-production probably starting in November. That is when some talents will be brought in to film vignettes and do promo work to get some feuds started.
Last season, Lucha Underground had a budget of $400,000 for each episode but that is going to be lower in season two. It is said that changes won’t be overly noticeable, and tapings could end up moving to Texas or Mexico to keep costs down in the future.
Season one of Lucha Underground had 39 episodes tapes, but there won’t be nearly as many for season two.
With less episodes being taped, that means less appearances of Rey Mysterio and that could end up saving Lucha Underground money in the long run. It isn’t known what kind of deal Mysterio would get or how exclusive it may be, but he’s going to be the top star in the company.
Rey Mysterio has been in the wrestling business for a long time, and even though he’s talked with WWE about a return, nothing was too serious. Now, he appears to be headed toward his next venture and that is Lucha Underground who may have its troubles, but they will benefit greatly from the presence of the small star.
