‘Fear The Walking Dead’: Will Ofelia And Corporal Adams Be The Next Glenn And Maggie?

Fans of The Walking Dead tend to watch the show more for the zombies than the romance, but even still, the relationship between Glenn Rhee (played by Steven Yeun) and Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) appears to be a fan favorite. Could AMC be trying to replicate that romance in Fear The Walking Dead with a relationship between Ofelia Salazar (Mercedes Mason) and Corporal Andrew Adams (Shawn Hatosy)?

In Episode 4 (entitled “Not Fade Away”), we saw a developing romance between Fear characters, Ofelia and Andrew. Could this be the start of a romance akin to that of Glenn and Maggie in The Walking Dead? While many fans would like to see romance blossoming this early into the zombie apocalypse, many other fans pointed out the fact that Ofelia seemed more interested in getting medicine for her injured mother than developing a deeper relationship with Andrew. And, after an interview Mercedes Mason did with MTV, it seems this viewpoint may be the correct one.

“The military is very set off from the rest of us. I don’t know if they’re going to become sort of a Romeo and Juliet, but I think they’re going to have some obstacles. Especially with Ofelia, she gets put between a rock and a hard place, and Cpl. Adams is going to get caught in the crossfires… she’s always very much attached to her father, and I think she’s desperate to get her mother back.”

And, as we can see from the sneak peek video into Episode 5 (“Cobalt”), Ofelia is certainly “singularly focused” on getting her mother back from the clutches of the National Guard who took her away last week to tend to her badly broken ankle. As Mason points out, Adams is on the team that took her mother away and prevented her father, Daniel Salazar (Rubén Blades) from going with her, even though they had been assured Daniel could go to the hospital with his wife, Griselda (Patricia Reyes Spíndola).

However, Glenn and Maggie’s initial relationship stemmed more from the need for human contact more than any real attraction between the two characters (especially in the comic book series The Walking Dead is based on). So, could the budding relationship between Ofelia and Andrew grow into something more over time?
