‘Scandal’ Season 5 Spoilers: Kerry Washington Opens Up About The Future For Olivia And Fitz

One of the biggest questions going into Season 5 of Scandal surrounds the newfound relationship between Olivia and Fitz. While many fans were excited that the two finally got together at the end of last season, their relationship moving forward is anything but simple.

In addition to seeing how Mellie deals with situation, and how the public will eventually react to it all, Olivia still has her career to manage. With that in mind, is it likely that Fitz and Olivia can remain together throughout the entire season?

According to Carter Matt, Kerry Washington recently shed some light on the matter during an interview at the 2015 Emmy Awards. In the interview, which was conducted by E!, Washington briefly explained that her character’s relationship with Fitz is definitely going to involve a lot of moving parts.

“It’s Shondaland. It’s complicated … If you saw the promo, there’s a lot of things happening between the sheets and stuff.”

Complicated is a great way to describe Fitz and Olivia’s relationship. One element that might bring them some trouble is how secret they want to keep their relationship. If they do decide to release go public with everything, then there is certain to be major consequences, especially considering Fitz’s high profile position.

At the same time, Mellie is still very much in the picture, and she might prove to be a formidable obstacle to Fitz and Olivia remaining together.

Meanwhile, the first episode of the new season of Scandal, titled “Yes,” appears to introduce a new assignment for Olivia that might take her away from Fitz for a period of time.

According to the official synopsis, Olivia’s team will take on a new mission outside of Washington D.C. With Olivia away, President Fitz will try his best to discover who was behind a mysterious set of events. Though it isn’t known exactly what he will be dealing with, it will likely be tied with everything that occurred at the end of Season 4.

Elsewhere, Abby is set to get some advice as she tries her best to clean things up and catch a much-needed break.

With everything set to go down in the opening episode, it’s clear that Rhimes is not going to make things easy for Fitz and Olivia as the two attempt to adjust to their new lives together.

The new season of Scandal is set to air September 24 on ABC.
