Bill Cosby Seeking New Criminal Lawyer As Prosecutors Attempt To Rake-Up Old But Relevant Case

Bill Cosby is looking for new legal representation as prosecutors are expected to rake-up a not-so-old sexual-assault case against him.

Veteran comedian Bill Cosby, who has been facing backlash from the public as increasing number of women are coming forward claiming the actor sexually assaulted or abused them when they were young, is gearing up to fight the sexual assault complaint brought against him by Andrea Constand in 2005.

The complaint, which was initially filed in 2005, was quite critical in all the cases that don’t have much merit owing to the limitations of the law. Bill Cosby had reportedly admitted to “obtaining Quaaludes in the 1970s” to give women he slept with. Cosby had confessed under oath that he had consensual extra-marital affairs. Though he still maintains that none of the women he slept with were drugged without their knowledge, scores of women have claimed that Bill Cosby methodically drugged and sexually assaulted them over the span of the last 40 years, reported Jezebel.

Bill Cosby’s agents had zeroed in on lawyer Edwin Jacobs, who confirmed that he was contacted about a pending investigation in Montgomery County. However, Jacobs referred Cosby’s agents to another high-profile Philadelphia-area lawyer. First time around in 2005, the case was settled before it went on trial.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman stopped short of confirming if her office would reopen the investigation, reported Fox News. However, she clearly implied that it might soon be reinvestigated in light of recent revelations,

“Prosecutors have a responsibility to review past conclusions … when current information might lead to a different decision.”

While all the specifics of the case aren’t openly available, experts suggest that the original lawsuit had much more damaging allegations than what were divulged to the police by the complainant. However, now that the case could be reopened, these allegations might come forth. The initial settlement prevented the complainant and her lawyers from commenting anything about the case.

Back in 2005, the then public prosecutor opined that the case didn’t have enough evidence to charge Bill Cosby with a crime. However, a lot of women since then have come forth with their stories of sexual assaults by the veteran comedian.

Given the circumstances, it is only a matter of time that Bill Cosby will have to fight his legal battles. However, given the time frame, it is unlikely he might be formally charged with a crime this time, too.
