Viola Davis’ Daughter Reacts To Historical Emmy Win

Viola Davis had a historical night at the Emmys, as she was the first African American actress to win the award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. No one was as excited for Davis than her adorable daughter.

Viola Davis’ 4-year-old daughter, Genesis, was so excited that she decided to hack her mother’s Instagram. To celebrate, Davis’ daughter captioned a photo that said, “Hacking mommy’s instagram with the help of Team JuVee!!!”

Viola Davis’ daughter left a too-cute-for-words video for her mother while in her school uniform. In the video, she smiled with glee and declared her love for her mother.

In the video, Genesis squealed with delight, “I love you mommy and I hope you win another Emmy. And you’re my favorite girl, and I love you.” Her daughter signed off by blowing a kiss to her famous mom.

Viola’s speech was one of the night’s most memorable, if not the most highlighted, of the evening. During her speech, she said, “In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers, and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to be, over that line. But I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line. That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s. And let me tell you something: The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity.”

She continued, “You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there. So here’s to all the writers, the awesome people that are Ben Sherwood, Paul Lee, Peter Nowalk, Shonda Rhimes, people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be black.”

“And to the Taraji P. Hensons, the Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharies, the Meagan Goods, to Gabrielle Union: Thank you for taking us over that line. Thank you to the Television Academy. Thank you.”

Since Viola’s historical win, she has received support outside of her family. Her fellow nominee, Taraji P. Henson, told Ellen DeGeneres that she supported her win. At the time, Henson told DeGeneres, “She’s been doing it longer. You’ve just gotta give respect and know when your time is.”

During Davis’ Emmy win for her portrayal in How To Get Away With Murder, Henson stood up to clap for Davis, as Kerry Washington was seen tearing up over the win.
