‘Law & Order: SVU’ Spoilers: Season 17 Premiere Shakes Up Team With A Blast From The Past

Season 17 of Law & Order: SVU premieres Wednesday night on NBC, and fans are anxious to have the show back. When Season 16 ended, Amaro was bidding farewell, and Benson was relieved to have the situation with Noah resolved. What Law & Order spoilers are available for the September 23 premiere as new episodes begin again?

Wednesday night brings a two-hour, two-episode block of the show for fans as they jump into Season 17. According to TV Guide, the episodes are titled “Devil’s Dissections” and “Criminal Pathology.” The season starts off with the squad heading to an area where a serial killer had buried bodies and a new, seemingly connected victim is found.

Rollins visits a prison and tries to get the already-convicted killer to confess to this latest death. In the process, however, stunning details are revealed. The second episode of the night continues the serial killer case, as more shockers come out and the case hits numerous obstacles.

Entertainment Weekly details that actor Dallas Roberts returns for the Season 17 premiere as Dr. Greg Yates, the serial killer. As Roberts is confronted about the similarities between the new crime and the former killings, he goes into unsettling detail about his previous crimes and he teases that he may be able to provide some help. Many will remember Roberts from his roles on The Good Wife and The Walking Dead. His previous stint on Law & Order: SVU took place during the crossover episodes with Chicago P.D.

Unfortunately for fans, Danny Pino is, indeed, gone from the show this season, and there will be no more Detective Amaro alongside Benson. TV Guide details Law & Order: SVU spoilers that Amaro’s departure will not be a focus in this Season 17 premiere. However, viewers will see both Rollins and Benson struggle with his absence in the first few episodes ahead.

Amaro won’t be immediately replaced, and executive producer Warren Leight says that much of this new season will focus on transitions. It seems that means that viewers will watch the characters head to very different places by the finale compared to where they begin in Wednesday’s episodes.

Law & Order: SVU spoilers indicate that Yates will dish out some information to Rollins, but it seems he points the finger at someone closely involved with the team. He’ll be messing with Rollins’ mind a bit, but it seems he may also have some information that she needs in order to solve the case.

Many know that Kelli Giddish, who plays Rollins, is pregnant in real life. Will the pregnancy be written into the show? Leight says that viewers will know the answer to that one by the end of Wednesday’s episodes. As the season goes on, Rollins’ sister and mother will pop up, and Benson will struggle with balancing her new job as a lieutenant with being a mom to Noah.

From the sounds of things, Season 17 of Law & Order: SVU will be a wild ride, and fans can’t wait to get started. Two episodes air on NBC on Wednesday, September 23, and the show settles into its regular schedule after that.
