Tisha Campbell-Martin Shares Emotional Meaning Of ‘Steel Here’ Video

Singer Tisha Campbell-Martin released the music video for her new single, “Steel Here,” on Monday.

According to the former My Wife & Kids star, there is a lot more to the video than what meets the eye.

Even without the impressive visuals featured throughout the music video, which definitely speak volumes, the actual lyrics of Tisha Campbell’s song tell a beautiful story on their own.

At its surface, “Steel Here” is an empowering message of a resilient woman facing life adversities headfirst and being strong enough to stand firm.

However, the visuals in the music video paint a picture of a deeper message — a message of abuse and forgiveness. Campbell confirmed the message on Monday on Twitter.

When asked about the meaning of the video, Tisha responded in one particular tweet by saying that it is about “forgiveness.” Written words are used throughout the “Steel Here” music video as another jaw-dropping visual.

According to Tisha, the actual words used are from an apology letter that she recently received from the person that abused her at a young age.

She further elaborated on that underlying theme as well as the video’s overall message in a series of other tweets.

“The color of the dress [represents] beauty and strength. Each dancer attached [to] me [represents] purging of anger, grudge, pain, low self-esteem, self-deprecation or any negative emotion being released and the freedom from it. The writing on my body and the man writing the letter [represents] the actual words of an apology letter I recently received from the person who violated me when I was 3 years old. By blessing me [with] the apology letter he allotted me the ability to be free and to forgive. #blessed #thankful”

During an August 2014 appearance on The Daily Helpline, according to BET, Tisha Campbell had a chance to offer life-changing advice to a young woman that was a victim of sexual abuse, advising her to make the transition from victim to victorious.

While opening up to the young woman, the former Martin actress exposed her own personal history of being a sexual abuse victim for the first time on camera.

“The reason why I can absolutely say this to you without judgment or anything else…is that I too have been a victim of the same thing. When I was three, I was raped by an older person. Now, I knew as a child I did nothing wrong and that this wasn’t my fault, but I have found forgiveness in the guilt that I might’ve had.”

Quite a few fans have expressed their appreciation and excitement over the message and story told by Tisha Campbell-Martin’s new video via Twitter and Facebook.

The mother of two and longtime husband of actor Duane Martin is apparently breathing new life into her old music career. However, Tisha Campbell Martin is still acting on the small-screen as well. She has a supporting role in the highly anticipated ABC sitcom Dr. Ken starring Ken Jeong which premieres next month.
