Julia Louis-Dreyfus Satirizes Donald Trump In Emmy Speech & Ties Mary Tyler Moore For Wins [Video]
Julia Louis-Dreyfus was joyful about earning her Emmy Award. But the actress just couldn’t resist the opportunity to satirize Donald Trump as she accepted the trophy. Drawing both from the character that Julia portrays on VEEP and what Louis-Dreyfus subsequently claimed were quotes from Trump himself, the time in front of the Emmy microphone turned into a satire, reported the Hill.
The Emmy Award for Best Actress marks Julia’s fourth such trophy.
“I think it would be appropriate at this moment to quote [our show]. ‘What a great honor it must be for you to honor me tonight,'” began Julia.
Then Louis-Dreyfus dramatically paused, before continuing.
“Oh wait, oh God. No, no. I’m so sorry. Donald Trump said that,” joked the actress.
Julia also pointed out that actually mocking Trump as opposed to quoting him increasingly posed challenges, reported USA Today.
“It’s getting trickier and trickier to satirize his stuff,” noted Louis-Dreyfus.

In addition to Julia’s speech, Andy Samberg kicked off the Emmy Award ceremony humor by bringing up Trump as well as Bernie Sanders and Kim Davis.
“Donald Trump, of course, is running for president, to the delight of uncles everywhere,” commented Samberg. “But I’ve gotta say, sure, Donald Trump seems racist… what else?”
For Julia, however, beyond the opportunity to use her sarcastic wit, the Emmy Awards of 2015 proved a triumph. Louis-Dreyfus now equals Mary Tyler Moore as well as Candice Bergen after winning the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Veep, reported Entertainment Tonight.
And when Julia learned about her milestone, she expressed amazement and awe. It was ET host Nancy O’Dell who told Louis-Dreyfus the historical news.
“You realize now you have tied Candice Bergen and Mary Tyler Moore for the most wins in the lead actress category?” pointed out O’Dell.
“Oh I had no idea,” admitted Julia. “That’s cool. Did you say Mary Tyler Moore? Okay, that’s sort of, completely mindblowing. Cool.”
In addition to taking home her fourth Emmy win for Veep, Louis-Dreyfus previously earned the lead actress Emmy trophy for Seinfeld in 1996 and The New Adventures of Old Christine in 2006.
But Julia confessed that 2015 felt like her most competitive year to date.
“I was really nervous I felt — it was very stiff competition, maybe the stiffest ever I mean, all those girls in this category are just so extraordinary…I’m just so overwhelmed, it’s great,” summed up Louis-Dreyfus. “I’m surprised that I won again this year to be honest.”
