‘Scandal’ Season 5 Features Divorce Storyline

Scandal season five premieres this week, and the overwhelming storyline will feature a presidential divorce between President Fitzgerald Grant and his wife Mellie. Since season one, fans have been hoping that Fitz and Olivia Pope would have the chance to be a couple, and it looks like the Vermont fantasy might be possible.

The Inquisitr reported that creator Shonda Rhimes will open this season of Scandal with Olivia and Fitz in an embrace on the Truman Balcony of the White House. Rhimes has confirmed that the couple will be together this season, but details about exactly what will happen to Mellie are vague. At last we saw Mellie and the president, he has giving her the boot and sending her on her way.

International Business Times is reporting that Mellie is struggling with the fact that she is facing divorce.

“The world had been fairly blown apart for everybody except Olivia and Fitz,” show creator Shonda Rhimes said at the press tour of the Television Critics Association. “Everybody else was in a fairly blown apart place… We pick up right there in that environment and we see what’s happens next.”

The premise of the premiere is that “Olitz” is once again a couple.

“Olivia and Fitz are back together again and enjoying every scandalous moment together while Cyrus, Mellie, and Huck are all still dealing with the aftermath of helping Command. Meanwhile, when a visit from the Queen of Caldonia and her family turns into a tragedy, Olivia is hired to make sure the Royal family’s private life stays private.”

Vine Report says that this season picks up with a world gone mad type of atmosphere, especially for Quinn.

“It’s really a conflicting emotion of do you kill your best friend/ mentor/ sexual lover/ all the different various relationships we’ve been to each other and the man you lick every once in a while for kicks?” she said to TV Line.

They also believe that Mellie will not go quietly when faced with the idea of divorce.

Scandal will premiere on Thursday on ABC. Will you be watching?
