Will ‘Scandal’ Feature A Presidential Divorce On Season 5? [Spoiler]

Shonda Rhimes is cooking up so many spoilers this season, it’s a wonder she can keep them straight. Scandal is teasing something that fans having been hoping for since season one, which is, of course, a presidential divorce. Olivia and Fitz, known to some as Olitz, have been seen in stills embracing on the Truman balcony, but how will Shonda Rhimes get rid of Mellie (Bellamy Young)?

According to the Inquisitr, Olivia and Fitz can finally come together because Elizabeth North (Portia de Rossi) exposed Mellie’s relationship with Rowan Pope, Olivia’s father. That was the last bond of trust broken between the president and the first lady.

According to the Franchise Herald, Shonda Rhimes has confirmed that Fitz and Olivia will be together in Season 5, but what will happen to Mellie? Will Rhimes play the presidential divorce card?

“Make of this what you will: During ABC’s ‘TGIT’ press tour panel, I asked Rhimes if she had ‘any interest in’- not whether she was planning on – writing a storyline about ‘Olivia Pope as First Lady’, and she flatly responded, ‘We don’t comment on future storylines.’ Hmmph. But later during a 1-on-1 at ABC’s party, without hundreds of press members staring her down, the uberproducer allowed that the ‘concept is intriguing’.”

But Shonda Rhimes did tip her hand a bit more, according to Deadline, by saying she will pick up with Scandal almost where they left off.

“That was a pretty harrowing place where the world had been blown apart for everybody except for Olivia and Fitz, who were left on the Truman balcony … doing some kissin’. But everybody else was in a fairly low-at-heart place. Mellie wasn’t living in the White House because Fitz kicked her out. Jake said he was walking away. Quinn was thinking about killing Huck. Things weren’t going so well for people, and we pick up right there in that environment.”

But there are even more questions for fans of Scandal, like what will happen with B613? Will Olivia Pope and Associates rebuild? Who will be the new gladiators? Cleveland.com is reporting that Cornelius Smith Jr. just might be that new gladiator. Smith has been on Scandal before as Marcus Walker, a community activist who hired Olivia in a past season.
