It seems Robert De Niro is of the old school persuasion and not into the latest technology. He still has a flip phone, apparently loves it, and doesn’t care who knows about it.
The 72-year-old Oscar-winning actor is starring in a comedy film The Intern, due in theaters on September 25. De Niro is playing opposite Anne Hathaway, 32, in the role of a rather unlikely and elderly intern to Hathaway’s fashion startup boss.
People interviewed Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway this week, discussing the huge generation gap between their two characters, which is apparently off-screen as well as on the big screen.

On Hathaway’s part, she said she never looks at the generation gap as how people are different, she always thinks about how much the other person has seen and knows from experience.
“I just always think, ‘My gosh, how much more have you seen! How much more wisdom do you possess!'”
Robert De Niro, however, feels the generation gap only too well.
He said, “I have a computer but I don’t do Facebook, don’t do Twitter, don’t do… what’s the other one?”
Hathaway giggled and quickly prompted him with the word “Instagram” before going off on another tilt. She turned to the interviewer and gave out the secret that De Niro owns a flip phone.
“We talked about it [on set] when he wasn’t around. We all thought it was cute.”
According to Vanity Fair, Robert De Niro is not alone, as apparently a 2015 study shows that around a third of Americans are not using smartphones.
De Niro himself sticks to his guns by simply saying, “They’re easy to use!”

Meanwhile, fans of both Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway can look forward to the release of their new odd-couple comedy on September 25. Basically, it tells the tale of Ben Whittaker (played by De Niro), a 70-year-old retiree who is just plain bored.
Having discovered that retirement is just not what it’s cracked up to be, he decides to get back into the working game as an intern at an online fashion company, founded by the much younger but business-savvy Jules Ostin (played by Anne Hathaway).
