‘Once Upon A Time’: Could Jamie Chung’s Mulan Find Love With This New Character?
Once Upon a Time is finally bringing back Jamie Chung’s Mulan, the heartbroken warrior who harbored secret romantic feelings for Princess Aurora (Sarah Bolger). Now that Aurora has settled down with Prince Phillip (Julian Morris) and started a family, will Mulan find love with one of the new characters being introduced during Season 5?
E! News first broke the news that Jamie Chung will appear during Season 5 of Once Upon a Time. The last time viewers saw Mulan, she was about to tell Aurora that she had feelings for her. Unfortunately, Aurora cut off Mulan’s declaration of love to announce that she was pregnant with Prince Phillip’s baby. This news devastated Mulan, and she decided to run away from her woes by joining Robin Hood’s Merry Men.
E! News speculates that there still might be some chance of Once Upon a Time exploring an Aurora/Mulan romance, and the women probably will meet again. However, perhaps Chung’s character will ultimately find love with a different doe-eyed, red-headed beauty during her multi-episode Season 5 arc. According to Entertainment Weekly, Brave character Merida (Amy Manson) will make her first appearance in the Once Upon a Time season premiere. Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) will meet the feisty redhead during her journey to Camelot, and Merida will help the Dark Swan as she searches for Merlin (Elliot Knight).

Everyone already knows that Mulan likes redheads, and Merida seems like she might make a better love match for Mulan than Aurora. Aurora is obviously ready to settle down and play housewife, but Merida seems to have an adventurous spirit that matches that of Mulan — the video below shows the warrior princess wandering around in the woods with her trusty bow and arrow. Perhaps Merida will eventually cross paths with Robin Hood’s Merry Men (and Woman).

There are probably still some Once Upon a Time fans out there who are confused about Mulan’s sexuality, but Jamie Chung cleared things up during an interview with E! News. Some Oncers thought that Mulan also had romantic feelings for Prince Phillip, but Chung said that the connection Mulan felt with him was simply a “sense of camaraderie.”
“I think she’s been able to develop a really deep relationship with both characters and I think ultimately her heart was with Aurora.”
Once Upon a Time showrunner Adam Horowitz recently revealed that Mulan will likely appear during both the first and second halves of Season 5. Hopefully, this means that she’ll have plenty of time to get some closure with Aurora so that she can start looking for love elsewhere.
